Fortunately my rats never had any respiratory illnesses or skin problems...but both of them did develop benign mammary tumors. This was decades ago when prevention/treatment was rare re: pet rats. We gave our girls the best possible 2+ years. They were a joy to our family, and as I've said, I've been singing their praises for 55 years.
