The Kansas City Chiefs Broke The #1 Rule, And It Won Them The Super Bowl | NFL News (Mahomes, Kelce)

My thoughts and prayers are with all victims of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade incident.

Well, the Kansas City Chiefs are your back-to-back NFL Super Bowl champions. But for a moment within Super Bowl LVIII between the KC Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs offense was not producing as was needed. And in fact, the Chiefs defense had been doing the heavy lifting for most of this game. That is, until we saw a playbook adjustment and scheme change from Andy Reid, Matt Nagy & company, that we haven’t seen the entire year from this team.

Starting with the Chiefs offense, their use of both Patrick Mahomes’ ability to scramble, use his legs and generate through the run game was heavily utilized. Pair that with the unexpected depth found in the WR room from of course Travis Kelce & rookie Rashee Rice, but also guys like MVS, Justin Watson, Noah Gray, Mecole Hardman scoring touchdowns, & even Isiah Pacheco & Jerick McKinnon being used along with their presence in the run. The 2nd half adjustments in Super Bowl 58 weren’t just unexpected, but unprecedented.

Then when you mention the KC Chiefs defense, the unlimited praise is deserving. Whether you mention Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, their frontline in Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, the middle of the field with Willie Gay, Nick Bolton, & Drue Tranquill, or the secondary in L’Jarius Sneed, Justin Reid & Trent McDuffie. This defense had been next level all season, and showing it again the biggest stage ultimately is one of the biggest reasons the Kansas City Chiefs are yet again NFL world champions.

It makes sense, though. Why get a costly asset like Mahomes injured on a QB run during an unimportant regular season game? But if you don't do it in the Superbowl when you are about to lose, what's the point of having a QB like Mahomes on the field? The goal of the coaches was to keep Mahomes healthy for the post-season and the Superbowl and they succeeded. When he took off with the ball, I knew they were desperately looking for that spark and boy did he deliver.

When a team struggles in the first half, but then thrives in the second half... you know they have better coaching

No surprise here. KC does what Rocky always does. Keep their guard up and let the other team wear themselves out. Then, because they simply work harder then any other team they have something left in reserve and THAT is they pull out the card they have been setting you up for all game....

Suprised me how KC defense kept 49ers WR in check. Travis Kelce had more receiving yds than Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk combined. Three other KC recievers had more receiving yds than Deebo. Good as Aiyuk was...both Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson had more yds than Aiyuk. Kittle only 2 targets for 4 yds suprised me too.

Chris Jones should've been awarded the Super Bowl MVP, hands down. He was an absolute menace on the line, blowing up SF's suspect guards and getting relentless pressure on Purdy in the second half. They started moving him around pre-snap, negating the advantages that SF was attempting to create with motion. He played one of the best games I've ever seen for an interior DL.

I have never seen a win like this, where contributions were balanced between offense, defense and notably the special team.

I feel like Mahomes was the difference maker on their last drive, picking up the 4th and 1 with an 8 yard scramble. Then a bit later on 3rd down, he ran straight up the middle for 26 yards against the 49ers in SB 58 and had a total of 44 rushing yards. That play reminded of the one where he charged up the middle for 27 yards on a bad ankle against the Eagles in SB 57. His total rushing yards that day was 69 yards on a very gimpy ankle. With grit, determination and drive, he willed the team to victory and some are calling it the greatest run in SB history.

I liked how they shut down Kittle. Dude got less than 5 yards…

Andy Reid is one of the best, if not the best coach I have seen at changing the original game plan. It´s not just that the SF deffense got tired, they went away from the game plan and tried different plays to confuse the defense until things started to open up and then the 49´s had no answers, they didn´t win it in regulation because they run out of time, if they had time for 2 more plays, they would have scored a TD

And nobody talks about Harrison Butker. 🤷‍♀ That MVKicker is a machine.

Chiefs’ defense saved them from a runaway 1st half and Mahomes’ run game caught them up. Smart plays, field goals, stamina and “never give up attitude “- that’ll do it!!

The secret of the SB was Andy and Spags made huge philosophical adjustments and Kyle and Wilks just didn’t get it done.

I feel like that kickoff hitting dudes foot and then the chiefs got it on the 20 pass to MVS gave the chiefs momentum and they just kept going with it afterwards and Andy Reid slowly dialed up the plays

Not only does this announcer/dude for the kids....If you're a Chiefs fan, the narrator absolutely nailed it! This man knows football, listen to the linguistics!

Go Chiefs forever.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was the person who suggested the play call in the huddle on the sideline on the 4th and 1.

Running teams have a hard time when the Chiefs sell out to stop the run and make the QB win the game for other teams. They see a guy named Mahomes on the other side and freak out if they don't have a two score lead. It's called the Mahomes effect. It's gets teams to get away from what they have done all year. I don't get it but it just does.
