What is Biodiversity Net Gain? (BNG) and why is it important? Integrated Land Management MD Sam Paske and Operations Manager Melissa Elibol tell all.

If you are a landowner or developer and you would like to find out more about BNG, contact us today.

Biodiversity Net Gain (or BNG) is a mandatory requirement for all developers in England under the Environment Act 2021.

It’s designed to ensure development has a measurably positive impact on biodiversity. Developers must deliver a biodiversity net gain of 10%, meaning the development will result in more or better-quality natural habitat than there was before development.

Integrated Land Management have been working at the forefront of the BNG market for over three years, working together with landowners, developers, and Local Planning Authorities to assess, create, and manage biodiversity gain sites. We’ve worked hard to develop our relationships and have built a strong network of supporting companies such as ecologists and lawyers to make the journey as smooth and simple as possible.

Developers must try to avoid loss of habitat and deliver as much on-site BNG as possible to meet their net gain requirements. When this isn’t achievable, they will need to contribute towards habitat creation and landscape recovery by purchasing off-site biodiversity units.

With a large and growing number of sites across the country, we can provide developers with the units they need to offset their requirements as well as a unique opportunity for landowners to incorporate sustainable land management practices whilst providing a robust income source without losing ownership of their land.

Go beyond the boundary and pave the way for sustainable development and land management.
