SpaceX’ Starship: Earth to Earth Travel

When we talk about Starship, we all know it is associated with a mission: colonizing Mars. But maybe we will have to wait a long time to be able to sit on Starship and fly to the Red Planet because the first flights will be for astronauts and scientists to research and work.
But what if I said normal people like us could also sit on the Starship earlier and fly around the world in less than an hour?
Unbelievable! But it is completely possible with Elon Musk and SpaceX. Six years ago, at the International Astronautical Congress, Elon Musk had a crazy plan: using Starship as a means of transportation like airplanes, also known as Earth to Earth Travel.
After many years of development, Starship has now had many changes compared to six years ago. So with those changes, is it still consistent with the above plan? If so, how will it change the aviation industry?
Stay tuned as we dive and more in this episode of Alpha Tech.

I think the sonic booms might be an issue

Having only watched 31 seconds of the video so far you ask a question, that on it's face is easy enough and exciting to imagine, initially. If you think just a bit harder you realize SpaceX will need to build a stage zero complex anywhere they fly and land. Tank farm, water deluge system, launch mount, tower etc. with that in mind, I don't see it truly being viable. I might be wrong, but I haven't heard anyone talk about that when they talk about the spot to spot flights on earth.

Since when is Space X the largest aerospace company?

Am I right, Starship runs on Methane and Oxygen. Doesn't burning Methane mean that there are little or no greenhouse gasses emitted than Aviation fuel!

The amount of fuel required makes this a total non starter.

Do you know what limits the speed of commercial jets?
Sonic booms.
They were damaging wildlife so much that Sonic booms were outlawed over the mainland for everything but military, and they need to prove it was nessesary.
The sound right now is a novel event.
Not so novel if that noise happens six times or twelve times a day or night.

Doesn’t seem plausible. Launch and landing sites have to be at remote areas, limiting their access

Number is one but flying at Starship will be bumpy and challenging for passengers

If you go to the FAA offices and walk the halls observing the bureaucracy at work, when we get the feeling that the people hired aren't really competent. A lackadaisical work environment pervades Federal bureaucracies.

If all these ideas come to fruition Elon Musk will be regarded as a living God by a lot of people.
More famous than any another human in history, maybe he is the second coming!!!

As soon as I see “SHOCKED!”, I know I’m about to see Musk Fan Boy propaganda!

C’mon, Man!!!

Thanks to the speed of the FAA I'm starting to lose my interest in SpaceX😢

Won't happen. SpaceX would have to build an entire launch and landing facility at each location. And that location would not be permitted anywhere near major centers. Permitting would be an absolute zoo with all sorts of governmental agencies getting involved. Lawsuits would ensue and have to be resolved. Airplanes take off and land in all weather. Would Starship? No. Patients with ongoing medical conditions take air flights. Would they survive a Starship flight? Even getting cargo to a SpaceX center in one country and then away from a Starship center in another would probably be longer point-to-point than an air flight. A colleague and I went from our apartments in London to the US Consulate in Edinburgh. He flew, I took the train. He beat me by 15 minutes, but I was able to work during my trip and he wasn't. Starship as Earth commercial travel is absurd.

Too bad the cost will be way too much for average person to afford to fly starship commercially to travel. Its a good dream though.

I think all will become obsolete within 20 years.

There is no such word as "aircrafts" in the English language. The word "aircraft" is BOTH singular and plural! I wish you super intelligent narrators would get that straight!

That is a dream I would love to partake in. Now boarding Starship Flight 420 to London. But then reality set it. The FAA. We need to get away from them and like the airline industry the NTSB will investigate incidents. Waiting for a launch license from the FAA for multiple flights a day… 🤣 Bwa ha ha haaa! … so yeah it’s a serious dream of mine.
