In France, Syrian Refugees Cook To Fight Stereotypes

In Paris, a Syrian refugee is taking over a trendy restaurant to show off his cooking skills and to break stereotypes. Many other refugees are also taking part in the Refugee Food Festival.

Can someone please explain how cooking is going to change people's point of view on "refugees"? Just because a Syrian cooked my food doesn't mean my views on Islam and the migrant situation is going to magically change.

There's something strange about trying to combat stereotypes by asking people to associate an entire social group with a commodity like food.  I think this is certainly a positive move, but I am nonetheless worried about the potential for things like this to turn into one-dimensional characterizations of Syrians.  Well, let's just hope dialogue doesn't stop here!
