yup SSI/SSDI and welfare in my state you can't have more than $2000, in the bank, you can't own a vehicle that is more than $2000 which makes it hard, even more so now, difficult to find a used vehicle under that amt.

I hate that I can't get life insurance. Both my hubby and I are on SSI. There is a reason why people are on SSI and they need life insurance. There really should be an exception. I mean if I die they cut my hubby's SSI ugh

I love my ABLE account! I've had one for 4 1/2 years now. I highly recommend the webinars on the official CalABLE youtube channel. Yes, that is specifically for California's ABLE program, but since ABLE is federal, the rules only vary slightly from state to state.

I have term life insurance. You are able to get that while on SSI. It has no cash value unless the person dies. Both me and my wife have a term life insurance policy. The Social Security office knows about the policy as well. It is also a fraction of the cost of whole life insurance or other kinds of insurance related to life insurance.

For people with disabilities, if you'll get an inheritance have the person who's leaving you money set up a 3rd-party Special Needs Trust (use a Special Needs Trust lawyer). That has the best benefit for you.

Otherwise, you'll have to set up a 1st-Party Special Needs Trust for yourself. It's not as ideal for you, but at least you'll shelter the money so you still get services.
