Persona 25th anniversary came and went in a flash it seemed like. In the end we were all left with mixed feelings, some more mixed than others. I for one, was left feeling like it was a disaster. The shin megami tensei series has been in a rough spot recently, so a lot was riding on the shoulders of the persona 25th anniversary. In the end it was incredibly disappointing, but at least we got ports of persona 5 royal, persona 4 golden, and persona 3 portable on every console. There was much more I wanted to say than I first thought I would after letting the persona 25th anniversary fully sink in and I am happy to share it with you all. There will be a lot of negativity with a title like Persona 25th disaster and all, but I believe this opinion needs to be voiced. Sit back and relax as I explain my reasons for Why Persona 25th Was a Disaster.

You shouldn't be too hard on ATLUS -- they can only perform up to two tasks per day: one in the afternoon and maybe one in the evening. When you take that into consideration, they get a phenomenal amount of work done.

This event felt like when going to a carnival which was supposed to have all the cool rides like rollercoasters and bumper cars but when you get there all they have is the spinning teacups and you're expected to be happy about it.

Persona 25 was the biggest nothing burger I have ever seen. It was really awkward, it was like showing up to a birthday party with no gift. Like not even a small one.

The funny part about the $500 turntable is that the one they're using is $300, meaning that having it be Persona themed bumped the price up by $200.

I feel like this entire thing would've gone over better if it wasn't unnecessarily dragged out over an entire year. If it was just one livestream with all these announcements, I think people would've been way more receptive to it. Instead they made a pretty obvious P6 teaser that went nowhere, gave Western fans table scraps, and expected everyone to keep caring for a whole year. Honestly a textbook example of how to never treat an anniversary

It was the anniversary of 3-5. There's no love for 1 or 2

It feels like they were going to announce persona 6, but changed their mind half way through.

I didn't expect anything to be announced and given most of their other anniversaries have largely just been merch related, thats pretty much what happened. Sure I would've liked Persona's 1 and 2 to have had more of a spotlight but again I've come to expect that. Probably the best thing to happen was the PSP version of Eternal Punishment's fan translation getting finished and released.

I remember when they first announced the year long announcements. I very quickly got bored of checking for updates and just let the news hit me organically. I was totally nonplussed the entire year, only the announcement of 3 and 5 finally being ported made me excited - but the excitement was accompanied by the nagging realization "oh okay i guess we're never getting 1 and 2."

I feel like it’s worth pointing out that when P 25 happened Square Enix had FF7’s 25 anniversary livestream and KH’s 20 Anniversary event, and both events had news on games and merch for eastern and western fans.
I know it’s not a 1 to 1 comparison given company size differences, but it might worth at least saying that having a year long event, where most of the big stuff won’t be leaving Japan, and having unclear marketing was what set the whole event up for failure.

If you are a longtime Persona fan whose been with the franchise for many years, like myself, this anniversary had absolutely nothing in terms of substantial new Persona content. Nothing.

Hearing you genuinely annoyed about this made me remember how I forgot how bad this event was. A whole year just to get what was expected to be the bare minimum.

Persona 25th is like a present wich sounds like it contains some good stuff, only for it to have something that you would never want or need in your whole life

Honestly sucks persona 1 and 2 get shafted so much .despite being the ones who walked so p3-5 could run, atlus neglets games that alot of people wouldn't mind buying.

I feel like they wanted to show P6, this celebration was like ATLUS screaming they would show P6, and they used the monthly release to keep the hype and have enough time to get it ready to show . However seems like they couldn't make it in time. P6 wouldn't have made the whole celebration good, but it would be enough for the fans. My speculation though

I think their biggest problem is they said they had "7 big announcements" to tell us throughout the year. And when you're a game company people will expect at least a few of those announcements to be games. The acrylic stands showing previous mainline games and protagonists with "secret" acrylics also did not help.
With the last minute announcement that there'd be no trailers or game information shown at the concert either, which has always announced stuff in the past. I'm of the theory that they did want to show something, probably a tease for Persona 6, but then decided that they just weren't ready and needed more time before showing us anything.
Which is fine! I love people taking their time to makes games! But the lack of any news on any new titles they're working on, especially with how much they hyped up their announcements made the anniversary feel like false advertising and that's why people got angry.
I hope for future anniversaries instead of saying "There's 7 big mystery announcements, " It'd be safer for them to say "there's lots of merch and events we'll announce throughout the year, " because that's all the anniversary ended up being.

I am really happy about the ports at least though, I'm excited to try out the female route of P3 on my Switch this January 😄
I am disappointed that we still have no clue about what Persona 6 looks like or what spin-offs or remakes Atlus is planning on making next, when their advertising made it seem like they'd at least share news on upcoming games.
But I've gotten over it and will just continue waiting to find out what game we'll get next ^^

This Anniversary was literally when you get a huge box as a present but inside of it you only find socks.
Huge anticipation but disappointing content

There’s no way they didn’t plan to announce Persona 6 this year. There were so many small things that seemed like they were hinting at a P6 reveal. Example: They explicitly avoid using green anywhere in the promo art wherever possible, except for some small splotches on Joker’s clothes standing next to a green paint bucket. There were some other hints as well, like green being missing from different places where it should be (like rainbow color schemes) or “blank” slots in art. Seems like the game just couldn’t quite get finished enough to be revealed yet and it threw them off.

"I really don't recommend you use Twitter at all"

Truest words hardly said.
