THIS RUN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.
THIS RUN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.
THIS RUN IS POSSIBLE.
THIS RUN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.
So yeah. This is a thing. To make a very long story short, the route used here should not be done RTA. Epona Seam Clip on Ordon Day 2 is a pixel-precise, angle-precise, speed-precise clip with Epona... after which you *must* get Gorge Void otherwise you softlock. On top of that you have Back in Time Equipped to perform later in the run (which runs the risk of crashing the game), more Epona OOB, and Zora Armor skip 100% mandatory... yeah, it is by no means an easy route. The first 5 minutes is hell and it does not get any easier after that.
I was doing halfhearted run attempts at Seam Clip because I figured I would just end up losing runs to Gorge Void, Sword and Shield skip, EMS, BiTE, Epona OOB later, Helmasaur LJA, Morpheel, Early CitS, Zant, or anything else that I might be forgetting. And, well...
Woke up, picked up the controller, figured I'd do some halfhearted attempts for an hour or so and then move on to something else. First-try BiT initially, good Seam Clip, got GV, and expected to lose the run to S+S skip. Nope. Get past that, get past EMS, fully expecting by now to lose this to BiTE crashing or just taking too long to get it. NOPE.
BiTE happens, save+quit. BiT afterward for EBF, get past that, Eldin Twilight, etc, etc, Epona OOB goes off well, Helmasaur LJA doesn't take that much, Lanayru Twilight, get the Goron Bag. Die here which is meh but okay. Get the clawshot, and I know I need waterbombs in the lent bag for Morpheel, so I savewarp. And then it hits me.
I'd only ever done Morpheel without Zora Armor once before, and that was a year and a half ago when I *tested this route using a ton of saves to make sure the thing worked* So of course I knew this was going to be painful. Fifth try I told myself this'd be the last time... and with zero water bombs left I got it. And then I realized: this run, for as terrible as it got, is pretty much past any major fail point except for Zant. On a route that should not be done RTA.
So by this point nerves are up to 15, I'm hyped to hell, and I played rather poorly from here on out. But Early CitS was fast, and while I safety-saved before Zant fight, I didn't need it. After Zant the run was basically confirmed to be able to finish - there's no runkills after that. And we finished it out.
This route is very hard and there's really nothing you can do to make it any easier. I am not someone who runs Any% for TP really (TPHD is far different). And yet... this run happened. A landmark run, just for showing off the most ridiculous Any% route ever conceived for Twilight Princess. A route that was believed was not RTA-viable. A route that, for all of its difficulty, has been conquered.
I don't know if I'll try and beat this. I would want to practice Morpheel and S+S Skip and a lot of other tricks first. But I will always have this run as a reminder of the time when I decided in my crazy mind to do attempts on the hardest TP Any% route. And, against all odds, managed to succeed.
