I finally worked out how to cast on, thank you, most other tutorials do not show close up.

when casting off, i put my finger over the next stitch while removing the one before. it keeps the next stitch from coming off before you’re ready. i also use a large c clamp to hold the machine down so that it doesn’t move. i find that the suction cups are not sufficient enough. if the machine bounces around, it can cause dropped stitches. i also
start and finish with waste yarn which makes it much easier to cast off. no worries about dropping a stitch.

For those who haven't got a wool wider we found winding on a empty kitchen roll and put it on the holder
