Chuck is 100% it's a business no need to pay max contracts outside your prime in any sport unless you are bringing in crazy PPV numbers or insane sales it makes 0 sense besides that.

This man is the only one who makes sense in what he says; he shows no passion on either side of the scale.

If its some iconic player, that brought something top to the franchise.. For Lakers and Celtics at this point its multiple championships (like 3+ when you consider the history) and you bring in sponsors and you sell out the arena.. then yeah..
So Denver won its first and only cause of Jokic, they sell tickets and get sponsors because of Jokic, hell they are even mentioned because of him.. So if he is past his prime they might offer him another deal for a few more years.
The Greek for Bucks, Steph for GSW, Lebron would be that for the Cavs.. You get the point..
Just like Dirk played as long as he wanted to..

Same thing that happened in the NFL, Daniel Jones got paid top dollar and because most starters are better than him, starting qb prices are all absurd now, even for average ass qbs

You have not been fairly compensated. All professional athletes are paid way too much, especially with most stadiums receiving special tax incentives which takes money from local schools and first responders. It makes no sense.

As a Wizards fan I wouldn't be surprised if Washington paid him. They be doing that dumb ass shit all the time.

The market sets the price. Owners pay what they think players are worth not what old lesser paid think their worth.

There are two sides to this coin. How many players play way beyond their contract and don't get paid for it?

What does that player's contract say in its terms?

I understand Chuck’s opinion, but if someone wants to pay him whatever, it is what it is. People worrying about other people’s pockets is lame.

Get real Cubby Chuck! How among us, if we were in the top 10% of our profession and had worked for an organization for over ten years wouldn't want to be properly compensated?

Pat Riley mishandled the situation. He said last year that he wasn't going to do negotiations with Butler during the season. Season had come and gone, and still nothing. This season, he listened to trade offers. There wasn't anything he liked, so he came out saying they weren't trading Butler. Jimmy, on the other hand, needs to stop talking nonsense, i.e. "Heat beating Boston if he was healthy, " and all that damn egotistical, self promoting talk. Some teams will be turned off with that kind of attitude that could ruin the locker room. Booker and Durant aren't going to put up with that bs. Dallas is Luka's team, so his shiet isn't going to work there either. Houston play hard nosed ball much like Miami, so that might be a good fit for him.

Love Charles for always being a Truthful man no matter what.

Like the Open Court topic of 'Money vs Ring', it'll either be you've gotten paid and want to win so you sacrifice if needed, or you just wanna get paid even past your prime. That's the NBA now

Remember people getting mad over the Warriors denying Klay a new max contract? lol

The problem is players thinking they're franchise players. The reason this was done previously, is that franchise players would often take a paycut in their prime to bring in help to win a chip, on the promise or unspoken deal that they would be paid later. Steph, Dirk, Kobe... The issue is teams are no longer loyal to players, and players won't commit to a single franchise for loyalty because they can be traded. Now players just expect to be paid, and teams will pay them.
