Rachel Alvizu, General Manager of Rieco-Titan Products, has a question for TCM readers.

When you arrive at a camping location, how often do you unload your truck camper, and why?

We unload anytime we are camped in a location where we need to use truck to tour the area (especially when low clearance bridges/tunnels exist nearby, eg. Arcadia and Zion NPs) or need better parking options at locations away from campgrounds. Also unload when camping site is off-level more than 3-4 blocks can achieve. On a 3 month trip at different locations every 3 or 4 days, often unloaded half that time. Have no problem unloading even for 1 or 2 day stops if required.

Load it in April, take it off around Thanksgiving. Take the jacks off once loaded (didn't figure that out as a weight saving measure until a couple years in once one rusted stiff.)

Almost always if more than 1 night. Been meaning to check what the maintenance schedule is for my jacks. Only think of that when loading or unloading.

Every time it makes it easier to get around and launch my boat

Rarely. My daily driver is a 1/2 ton so the camper stays on the 3/4 ton fulltime, even for oil changes. We almost exclusively boondock and rarely go into cities to do the tourist thing.

Rarely if two nights or less, usually if three or more. Especially unload if the site has hookups so we can use the truck without detaching everything.

We usually load the camper in the spring and unload it about Thanksgiving.

Unless it’s only for one night we always unload.

Depends on where we are and if we have our boats on top of the camper. It's pretty high up there when it's on the truck.

We don't take the camper off, at all, while out on a trip. Never have. I do take the camper off whenever we're at home so I can use the pickup for more... pickuppey things. With our hard-side camper though, it's never been an issue to pop away from our campsite to cruise around or get some groceries (beer).

Every time except for a one to 3 day stay!

Depends on the type of camping we are doing and what we are going to do.

We unload any time we're staying somewhere more than one night. It only takes 5 minutes and it's so nice to just have one step up inside. And no one wants to lift a 50lb dog up there every night.

Unload after most trips so I can store it on the ground. My HOA doesn't mind the camper on the ground but it is too obvious in my back yard when on the truck.

We only unload when, at home, not on the road. One time in the last 25 years we unloaded because we went to a drive through zoo. When we take the plunge and go full time, we will not unload.

If it’s just an overnight, it stays on. But if we’re there two nights or more, it’s off.

I'll remove it if static in excess of two overnights.
