Aston Martin Valkyrie vs The Real World

The Valkyrie is Aston Martin’s F1 car for the road. Or is it?

It was conceived when Aston was purely a Formula 1 sponsor, and designed with a little help from Red Bull and its soon-to-depart design genius Adrian Newey (who’s actually joining Aston’s own F1 team. Small world!). And while the Valkyrie has numberplates and headlights and a windscreen wiper, it’s about as single-minded a hypercar as there has ever been.

Can you really use it on the road? Or is that marketing fluff?

To find out, we set Top Gear Magazine’s Contributing Editor Jethro Bovingdon the onerous task of spending days and days in a £2.8m Valkyrie…

What do you call a man who drives a Valkyrie to work everyday?

Anything you like - he can't hear you.😂

I really appreciate the fact that they included the startup procedure it might just be me but I really enjoyed that part since most videos about HyperCars are always the same, nice expensive car sliding around but the startup procedure feels more intimate since is something we dont normally see but the owner always does. Great video cheers.

The Valkarie is an engineering marvel. The fact that it is road legal at all is shocking.

This video tells me that the vast majority of Valkyries will be driven once and then placed in a garage, appreciating in value.

I saw one in Monaco - the look of it is truly intoxicating. It was sitting still and it blew me away like no other car I'd ever seen.

Glorious sound from the outside but painful from the inside.

That "starting procedure" is actually the proper way to start any car. Turn on the batteries, then accessories which turns on the computers and it does some checks on the sensors, primes the fuel pump, etc., and only after a few seconds do you put your foot on the brakes and breath it to life. If you engine is naked, you can see and hear some of the checks the car does when you turn your key or push your button to ACC, the throttle body will dance, fuel pump whirrs and clicks.

The Valkerie looks like a concept car. Absolutely mental.

Lower down the food chain but I drive a BAC Mono. The thing that gets you with these cars with sequential gearboxes and straight cut gears is the gearbox noise! You just have to wear earplugs (there’s some recordings on my channel.)

Watching this was bloody painful! RIP Headphone

2:08 I don't think you can put the noise aside mate.

Puts me in mind of the Jaguar XJR-15. Not truly a road car but a marvel nonetheless (I can't imagine not getting a noise ticket just about anywhere).

Everything I could hear you say (about 90%) was interesting. But honestly it sounds horrible inside the cabin. Not just loud but kinda, er crap.

I’d take G Murrays road effort over this for road use.
