I hope for future devices, Anbernic starts to move away from the RK series of chips.

Just FYI, The micro SD cards aren't some generic off-brand. Toshiba Memory Corporation changed their name to Kioxia back in 2019.

You're right on all the points...
But for me, this has been the best way to play retro, PS1 below. The beautiful screen and the ratio, the fun factor, and the way it makes retro looks, is the best and nothing compares to it (for now).
I don't want to play GC on this, just retro. And yea, there are other options, but I just loving this one for now.

I bought one last year and have been tinkering with it since because the software on the device is abysmal. Even though they did upgrade to Android 11 eventually, it still lacked solid 5gz wifi support. Only 2.5ghz was supported and it was not very good at all unless you were right next to the router. I had to go with a third-party distribution for the Linux side called JELOS for that. They did a great job, but you're right. I was not able to do anything out of the box. I am still tinkering with it to this day.

Until this thing gets custom firmware it's definitely not worth it. I hope Anbernic tries to get developers like Micro Linux, ptitSeb, Nico D, Black-Seraph, and TechToyTinker involved because the RK3399 can do a lot more.

I can't wait till I get my Ayn Odin. I think Anbernic just rushed this out to beat the other companies to the punch.

Great review as always!

In China, this only costs about 1000RMB (with only the 16G Linux system card), which is about 157USD. Not sure if that may make this device a more reasonable choice.

The conclusion is, the RG552 isn't worth its current price. In your opinion, at what price will it be worth it?

TheGamingGeekNet

Very thorough and honest review, at the price point it's just not worth it with devices like AYN Odin rocking the higher end emulation scene and the budget beast like RP2+ giving you huge bang for the buck.

More cons than pros. Thanks for the video!

We need a tutorial specifically showing how to switch the L1 and R1 with L2 and R2.

Sujano I live in China and they're (RG552 and Powkiddy X18S) both easy to find and affordable. Which one should I get, plzzz.

What would you suggest as a alternative that can run everything up to ps1 possibly ps2 for same price or cheaper?
