Here's why I won't be buying any more Teravail products going forward. I hope I can help you avoid a bad purchase with this video.

Guys - I said "QBC" a million times because I'm an idiot. I meant to say "QBP" which is the actual industry giant I was referring to.

I’ve never used these. I’ve tried the Rutland tires. They were pretty good. The 47c version because that is what fits in my frame. It also depends what kind of gravel you ride. It’s a tire better for rougher surfaces than champagne gravel. I didn’t have problems seating them either.

I mounted these tires in about 2 minutes. I needed two levers, but it was not the toughest tires I ever mounted. Once mounted I was able to put them up with a WalMart floor pump with no sealant. They measured out to 39mm when they are sold as 42mm and I have a 23mm ID rim. hope the stretch out some.

I saw your video when looking into the Washburn as new tire for my Salsa 650b gravel bike and decided to ignore your warnings. I got a hold of Washburn and without a doubt it was the most difficult mounting job ever. I have mounted numerous tires over the years and know many of the tricks but that last bit of the bead was extremely hard to pop into the rim. All that to find an extreme amount of wobble in the tire after inflating it… returned them right away.

Next are the Honchos on my Salsa hard tail. Went on my first big MTB trip and got a sidewall puncture on what I knew was a not so burly tire. Kinda expected. Then I got my first real MTB tires on as a replacement on the trip (Maxxis) and I have never experience such a boost in confidence! Night and day. So maybe that’s not new news on how to ride the Honchos, but my experience with Teravail has also been lackluster. I am just a single data point and wish the company success.

this might help someone

I put new Conti's on and they were *ridiculously* tight mounting to a tubeless rim. then I got the wobbly breakfast egg. I could tell that the bead was not symmetrical to the rim. It was lower, or tighter, where the last of the tire was mounted. I wasn't sure how to fix it, so I figured I'd just air up and go for a ride to see how bad it was. Im a big fat guy so I always max out the psi. as I got to five and a half bar out of six i heard a pop/snap. I checked and sure enough the pressure had pulled the tire symmetrical.

so if anyone has a tire out of round, air up to the max psi, and that might be enough to balance the tire

I was looking at the Washburns but saw reviews about how hard they are to mount online. Now I've seen your thoughts I think I'll pass on them now. Thanks and sorry to hear about your monetary losses. Cycling stuff is expensive enough without throwing money away on bad products!

Thanks for your review. I've noticed everything that you mentioned too with my Washburns. What's a good tire that you recommend? I like the semi slick of the Washburn bc I can ride on road and on gravel, but I'm looking to switch.

I just seated some Cannonballs. It took a bit of effort to get them onto the rim, but I prefer that over them going on too easily and me being worried about burping them running lower PSI.

Man I love my Specialized Sawtooths, been on them almost a year now and they are fast and grippy 😊

I’ve been a Washburn and Rutland user for about 2-3 years. I’d ordered 2 new tires in the wrong size for my son’s xxs canyon. I contacted them, got authorization for a return and a code. I followed directions to a “T” and mailed back. That was the last I’ve heard of them. Now I’m out the tires and the money. Follow up emails to support have been ignored.

I’m now an ex-user & won’t recommend these anymore. In fact the opposite. Ripping a guy off for $150 cost them a loyal customer and who knows how many future purchases from me and those I convince to look elsewhere.

Fellow teravail cannon ball user, for me I only had the slightly wobbly casing issue. And had the opposite experience on seating the tires. I could even get them onto my hand the first time and I get inflated with a floor pump. Guess it's luck of the draw for seating the tires.

Thanks for your review. Wish I’d had the information about a year ago. I to have had the same experience with the washburns I got. My problem was that they both blew off the rims when inflated just past the 40psi when seating the beads. I to have the side to side wobble plus one has a hop in it. I’ve since switched to specialized pathfinders and couldn’t be happier. Thanks again for your input

I had wobbly casings on two sets of conti terra trails. They were the Chinese versions though with silver text. They used to be made in France but now China. I run pIrellis now and no issues. I previously ran teravail Rutlands and found them to be great but I can’t remember how true they ran now. I totally agree though, these damn tyres are as expensive as car tyres now so they should be 💯 perfect. No excuses. Bike shop should’ve refunded you straight up. That’s annoying. Your contract is with them therefore the obligation to resolve it lies with them. I would’ve demanded a refund.

They’re heavy and expensive. There are better options out there that are more competitively priced and lighter.
