I feel like these malignant supervisors and bosses should be personally sued too. Bullies would be more careful if it hit their wallet too!

I've received training from my company that advises us to find shade, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated during hot weather. It's positively inhuman to suggest anyone do otherwise, especially in the heat waves we've had recently.

As someone who working in environments that are not normal. I have never had someone tell me to not take a break if I felt I needed one. Usually if theres a bunch of us on a job then we will all take a break at the same time but if someone needs a break we let them take it.

That boss should be thanking you for only suing him for wrongful termination.
Because wrongful death lawsuits come with a much much higher price tag.

I had chikfila fire me after i asked if i was being paid for orientation. Then they tried to say it was another interview, though i had everything in writing from the hiring to asking when i was available for my orientation. Ive not heard back from them after my lawyer sent a letter, but they sent a check for the hour worked and $20 i spent for a food handler card. That doesn't make up for weeks of lost income, unfortunately.

That's a rabbit hole because the boss(the independent contractor, aka, the one with a contract with a client) is going to try to claim his employees are also independent contractors, even though they work directly for him and they have no clients, so he will get audited and probably sued by his employees over this too.😂

Not in Florida. The governor doesn't care if you die from the heat.

Certainly, it is a gross mistreatment of an employee—both a safety violation and employee retaliation.

Get him! And lock him out of the office in August.

You see, i work in food, and i work really hard to treat my employees with respect. How could you work someone like that and then have the audacity to fire them for damn near dying from it. It is a supervisors responsibility to provide a safe working enviroment, i dont care what your doing or who you work for. That is one of the pillars of the job you took if you took a leadership role. Shameful thay is.

People die from this, it’s amazing how many bosses are ignorant of basic biology.

Hah. The exact opposite happened to my husband. One of his workers said he felt sick. Hubby took one look at him and asked him how much water he had so far during shift (it was an 18 hr shift). Dude said none, I've been drinking pop. My husband just stared at him in disbelief. Told him to get in the air conditioned trailer. Gave him a gallon of water, told him to take sips and just relax. He was told not to leave the trailer to work at all. He was to relax until he felt better. If he still felt like sh*t after an hour of no work in the a/c sipping water one of the supervisors would take him to urgent care. My husbands 2-week shift ended half an hour later. He updated the oncoming supervisor about dudes condition and to check on him in 30 mins. 30 minutes later the supervisor goes to check on him ready to take him to the hospital if he needed(its on security camera). He's gone. Trucks gone. No one has seen him. He isnt asnwering his work phone, home phone, hotel room phone. They sent his roommate to check the room. All his stuff was gone. They had to shut the pad down to search the surrounding area for him. Nothing. Two days later he calls in saying he just went to the hospital and they said he had heat stroke. They asked him why does he have heat stroke if he's been out of the sun for 2 days and where has he been? Ends up the dude had a side chick and his wife didnt know until his work started looking for him. He ended up calling the day of his next rotation and quiting. They ended up firing my husband for it. Saying he didn't follow protocol, it was in his supervisor manual. Fyi, he was never given a supervisors manual just like he wasnt told they were promoting him to supervisor (he had been dodging the promotion until 2 years previously when they just promoted him). My husband had been with the company almost a decade and earned a safety award every year because he worked by the book and always made sure everyone did their jobs (yes even before he was a supervisor). All the crews he was on earned bonuses and set new company and industry records. And he was fired because 1. Dude couldn't follow directions. 2. The other supervisor lied (even with witness testimonies. Hubby had the last laugh though. He was the only one trained and certified to used a special crane in the ENTIRE Eastern Division of the company and it took a couple months to get that. The company ended up firing the guy that fired my husband. It's been a few years now and they are still calling him apologizing and asking him to come back. He treats them like telemarketers and lets them do their spiel then says no and hangs up. 😄🤣 They are lucky he didn't sue them. He did end up losing his 401k match, which he gotten upto half a million because he had the max amount they would let him put towards it.

Were forced to grind and sand aluminum in an enclosed space. Whenever i say anything, the fact that i smoke is brought up and my concern is dismissed with a laugh. Masks and air filtration isnt provided, its not great.

God, people who are able bodied should be working but give them air conditioning, cold water&ice, and plenty of rest breaks. Make the working conditions you know, humane for humans? Humans need to be kept as cool as possible in the summer and as warm as possible without overheating them in the winter. They also tend to get thirsty working anywhere, especially in a rough temperature climate workplace. Let them drink cool water. Humans get hungry. You let them take a break to eat. It's no Brainers to keep your workers safe.

My ex employer did something similarly. He mocked me when I went to the ER and said to do it off his job site.

Would be nice if boss license could be legally revoked. Ensure some people are never in charge of people again.

Recognizing you’re showing early signs of heat exhaustion isn’t having soft hands. I’m sure if they worked till they fainted they wouldn’t have even been brought to the hospital

As a 32 yr. city worker, I've seen enough guys pull some kind time-off fraud. BUT, if this case is legit, it's unconscionable! If the guy died or suffered severe or permanant injury, the boss &/or the co.'s gonna loose a lot more $$! You don't have to be an old geezer to suffer heat stroke.

When you get fired for prioritizing your life over the job, you should really take all your colleagues with you.
