What is a Prospectus?

A prospectus is an offering document required under securities laws that provides an overview of a particular investment that is offered to the public. It must describe the security and the risks involved with the type of investment. The risk sections tend to be extremely lengthy because the lawyers want to make sure that investors are apprised of the hazards that may lie in waiting for the issuer, the organization offering the security, in the future.
