Saab also made the Saab 2000.
A truly amazing, overpowered machine that flys like the viggen! They are sadly very rare.

The SF340s brakes really are that good!

The Saab 340 has the same engines as the black Hawk and apache helicopters.

Rex is short for Regional Express and they operate in Australia. They are often the only airline that goes to small towns, including mine. We get multiple 340s every day.

Turboprop pilot here. The Saab 340B is what I consider one of the best aircraft in the sim, but to make it truly great, it needs a serious sound overhaul, the engines need to produce more power (in sim), and we need the ability to calibrate our throttle. Turboprops are awesome and they hold one of the greatest sounds in aviation. The “beta howl”. When you throttle down below idle in a turbo prop, it changes the pitch of the giant prop blades. This creates an enormous change in the air and results in a demonic howl that’s deafening to those without ear protection near it. You can hear across airfields. This is known as the Beta howl because it occurs between ideal power and maximum reverse known as Beta range. It should be present on nearly every single turboprop. We use this not just after landing, but while taxiing to slow down which saves wear and tear on wheel brakes. It’s one of the defining characteristics of a turboprop. The bigger the engine and blades, the louder the howl. The ATR and Saab 340 have some of the most impressive beta howls in the aircraft world. Unfortunately, they’re nonexistent in MSFS 2020/24. In 2024, it’s very spotty. Some aircraft have it, some have it only inside, some only have it outside. I really wish Asobo would understand and fix this amongst those in the sim. We need to be able to calibrate our throttle device so that a smooth transition from idle power into beta and full reverse is available. If anyone wants a fantastic example of this, the Black Square Turbine Duke is probably the best representation of a turboprop in any sim I’ve come across. I hope it makes it over to 2024 soon and it’s detail/quality catch on with Asobo and others.

On a side note: The American Eagle and Northwest liveries are a must with this aircraft.

We have a whole service center for 340s at our airport and we have a lot of them coming for small cargo and sometimes even the Saab 2000s come as a private charter flight. I have worked in lot of the 340s when we were loading the cargo.. The inside is really small though so it was really hard to move there. But it was always fun when the plane would nearly fall on its tail when loading the cargo (it always had to have the support stick under its tail).

Rode in a Saab 340 North West Airlines out of London Ontario Canada to Detroit and it was glorious pilot took off very steep AOA then almost a 60% left turn while ascending and the noise from the turboprops at full throttle is awesome. I actually loaded up same Saab 340 in FS2004 on my laptop with the stewardess on my lap .. but had no flightstick and crashed on takeoff. 🖖🏻🖖🏻👾👾👽👽

I like the Saab 340 too because it's pretty unique and one of my favorite turboprop aircraft. I love flying that plane in Real Flight Simulator. I believe the Saab 340 can carry up to 36 passengers. It turns out as of October 2024, at least 324 Saab 340s were still flying in either passenger or cargo configuration. I also know the Saab 340 has 4 fatal accidents including the dealier case happen in 2011 in Argentina.

A DASH 8, from Tyrolean is briefly shown. Gives me shivers. It's has been acquired and folded into Austrian Airlines. I have flown many times on Dash-8, twice a year for twenty years, to reach my family in the south of Austria for the common festivities. They are brain liquefyingly loud!
