Russia opens new criminal case against Oleg Navalny | DW News

Authorities in Russia have opened a new criminal case against the brother of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Oleg Navalny was already on the wanted list for another matter. In 2014, Oleg Navalny was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison for fraud in a case Kremlin critics said was trumped up. Now police say they have opened a new case but have not unveiled details of the charges.

This comes after the mother of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny made a direct appeal to Vladimir Putin for his body to be released.

My heart goes out to Alexei Navalny mother and wife and children. For putin to keep a mother

Kinda like gangs... they go after one, then the brother to send a message to rivals, or more grimly to his mother who has just spoken against Putin for not releasing the body... Mothers are sacred in Russia, they can't be harmed directly and are a potent political force (ie. when mothers marched on mass about their sons dying needlessly and not even receiving pay, Putin could only appease them, release payments to soldiers and comfort them on TV.) Coppola could have directed this.
