The problem is that some in Congress said they didn't vote to convict him on the second impeachment specifically because it should be left to the courts. So Congress doesn't believe it is the only body which can charge him and must convict before the courts can.

If anything, a president should be held to a higher standard of conduct.

NO MAN OR WOMAN IS ABOVE THE LAW. If anything, Trump should be held to a higher standard because of the office he held. AND if Congress has the primary authority, why does this country have a Supreme Court?

Impeachment is like being written up and possibly even fired from your job. Can a person be criminally charged for the acts that got them fired from their job? Of course. It happens every day.

Emphasis on OFFICIAL ACTION, and underhanded deals, lies, and treason are not official acts.

Not just above, but beyond the reach of the law.

A conviction by congress means absolutely nothing.

What a desperate move. Last month he didn't do it and this month he argues that he has immunity for those actions ?

In declining to vote for impeachment of Donal Trump, Mitch McConnell stated that the recourse to prosecution in court was wide open

If the court agrees, let's hope Biden will act on this and get rid of Trump.

He’s not even denying the charges, he simply wants to be immune from any wrong doing.
That tells you everything right there. Plus he’s trying to plead his case on the two tiered justice system.
