The SEASON OF NO (What it Takes to Win)

How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

He's 100% correct. Some of the biggest leaps in my life is when I stayed alone and focused.

Love your content Alex! Just when i needed it. Heres the List of Rules to put on your wall for the season of NO!
• Successful people say no to almost everything
• The season of no is a period of intense focus on one goal
• Sometimes a season of no can last three months, sometimes three years
• During a season of no, say no to social events, alcohol, and one-off favors
• Trick your brain into thinking that saying no is actually a yes to the thing that matters most
• Focus means saying no to a hundred other good ideas
• Be selective on the one thing that matters most
• Most plans taken to their natural end are actually pretty good
• Say no to work that's below your pay grade
• Family obligations are a choice, not an obligation
• Say no to business contacts to stay productive
• Writing down the things you're willing to sacrifice for your goal is more effective than a to-do list
• Be willing to say no to everything else to allow space for productive work.

Man I give you your flowers. I am 41 and finally realized these things from my crazy life. Kudos to you for being honest with everyone and dropping true knowledge on us . When I look at it from the correct perspective I realize that you must have faced some trials that others never will. Shalom.

The examples he gives really show how much Alex is able to learn from others mistakes. Jobs, Seinfeld, Rogan, Buffett; this man studies the goats of every trade and leverages their lessons to bolster his own productivity. THEN he gives the lessons that correlate to us for free. Absolute legend.

Hearing the “some seasons of no are 3 years” was so crucial to hear. I’ve been in a season of no for 6 months and I thought I was being too extreme. Thank you for sharing this. 💛🙏🏽

Dude this video came at a perfect time, I’m at a period in my life where internally I just want to grind, but on the outside there is so much going on and I hate letting people down so I always say yes when I need to start saying no, because I don’t want to feel bad. Thanks for showing that this is normal, and as a matter of fact crucial to massive success. Be blessed brother! 🙏💪

One thing which hit me the most is
“People only want you to become a person that serves them best”

Great stuff as always. I’m at just over a year of saying no to absolutely everything except growing one niche, one offer and one traffic channel.

Never made more money easier than right now.

Really needed this, went through my 3 years and your right. You realize a lot of people don't want what you want and you have to say no and stay focused. it's also when you start to see who there for you and whos not.

This is the first time I actually write a comment on Youtube.
This is putting words to my thoughts and reflections. Thank you for this.

Everytime I’m in a struggle I come here and just catapult. I move rungs up from this content. Thumbs up for people who watch and immediately take action on the thing. I bet it’s only 5% of the people that come here.

Alex, your video editor needs to make the audio louder. It's way too quiet even with my car speakers on full blast.

This video has been a game-changer for me. I've always struggled with productivity and focus, often finding myself overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks and opportunities that come my way. But the concept of a "season of no" has completely shifted my perspective.

I've started saying "no" to things that don't align with my primary goals, and it's been liberating. It's not about rejecting others or opportunities, but rather prioritizing what truly matters to me. I've realized that every "no" is actually a "yes" to my main objectives.

The analogy of "yeses" being withdrawals from my personal energy account and "no's" being deposits into my goal account really resonated with me. I've started seeing my time and energy as a finite resource that needs to be invested wisely.

The idea of focusing on one goal at a time, rather than trying to juggle multiple goals, has also been a revelation. I've been able to make significant progress on my main goal, and it's been incredibly satisfying.

This video has taught me that it's okay to let other people's dreams of me die so that my dream can live. It's a hard truth, but it's necessary for personal growth and success.

I've also started being more conscious about my business contacts and the time I spend on calls and meetings. I've realized the true cost of these interruptions and how they affect my productivity.

In short, this video has completely transformed the way I approach my work and life. It's taught me the power of saying "no" and the importance of focus. I'm grateful for these lessons and I'm excited to continue on this journey of growth and success. Thank you for sharing this wisdom.

I became a writer at age 61 in Bogotá, Colombia. It has been my way to overcome adversity. It has been my way to protest elegantly and reach out the World 🌍 Thanks.

The "family" is where I'm stuck... basically caring for my 78 year old father. Family barely lifts a finger to help, and it leaves me option less to pursue what I want to better my life.
