How to fix stripped door hinges in 5 minutes or less

You can use golf tees and glue to fix stripped screw holes in just a few minutes.

This week we had just refinished the boys' bedroom door only to come home the next day to find the door sitting against the wall completely detached from the door jam. Turns out they were using it as a battering ram. The result was 9 stripped hinge screw holes. Thanks to @Idahopainter we were able to find a quick and easy solution that involved my golf supplies.

Great job!! For smaller holes (or if you aren't a golfer) you can use wooden match sticks. Elmers Wood Glue works well also. For surface dings or chips, my dad would mix a bit of wood glue with some fine sawdust. A homemade wood "spackle" that could be sanded off - especially on furniture that was painted. (My folks lived thru the depression, so we were ALL about mending & making it work). I bet Tyler felt pretty proud of helping you fix the problem.

Nice alternative to going to the store and finding some dowels. Certainly have a ton of tees sitting around! And I loved that you made the boys help out on the repair.

We used dowels in our house that we were renovating and fixing hinges. They worked great but this looks super easy too. Amazing to not have to replace the whole frame!!

I love this...I just broke my hinge on my pantry door. I tried using tooth picks it didn't really hold, I have my ex's golf equipment ...( Insert evil grin here 👿) which I will gladly put to use to fix the door! Nice getting the boys to help out...you and Christine do parenting right!!

This seems like a very useful tip, and I cannot wait to try this! The bottom hinge on one of my bedroom doors has come loose, and the three screw holes are stripped. I believe that the method displayed here will prove less expensive, than some alternatives that I had considered initially. Thanks!

Another great video. Frugal Fit Dad once again great for trying new things and teaching your kids. I know it's not funny that they broke the door. I beat you they was having some fun when all of a sudden the door breaks and then the seriousness comes into play lol having to tell the parents what happened.

Hey Dave, My husband and I watched this video easily a year ago. Today, 1/15/2021, my husband says, hey Frigal Fit dad did a video... I said yes I can get golf picks at any store, you don't have to go to a sport store. hahaha He didn't even have to finish his sentence and I knew. Anyway, the tip is great, thanks for it!
