Costly MOT False Start | Starting Our Bunk Bed + First Drive | Mercedes Vario Van Conversion EP.42

The van conversion continues with the start of our bunk system. We also needed to finish our steps, install some switches for our new strobe lights and a few other things. We also got around to boxing in our iMass heater - better late than never ey?

Then came the drive to the garage for our MOT pre-inspection only to hear some news that probably won't surprise some of you. But it's not a fail; but it's not a pass either. But it is expensive. That's #vanbuild for you 😊.

As always thanks for watching, it would be great to hear from you all in the comments and if you are new here we'd love it if you'd consider subscribing to see the rest of our adventures.

A little more about us and our #diycamper

We are converting our 2003 Mercedes Vario minibus in our spare time. We are complete novices and learning as we go. Who knew converting a van could be so much fun. We really need all the help we can get but just love sharing our progress, learnings, struggles and little wins. It’s amazing how a self build can take so much time.

Thanks so much for watching our #vanconversion journey. Take care from the Wanderbus Adventures family.

My dad always said to me if you believe in yourself you can achieve anything. And clearly this is the case with you, I’ve learnt so much from watching your build as I’ve already said I’ve bought a 814 Vario to convert into a motor home. Thank you for you videos.

You are spot on about gaining confidence over time to tackle certain jobs. On my first van build I employed a joiner for an hour just so that I could learn how to scribe properly. Money well spent in my opinion.
Love the framing around the heater, belt and braces as you say but peace of mind that it won't move, ever!
Sorry to hear about your mechanical and MOT woes but clearly better to address these now rather than later.
Keep up the good work. I am really enjoying following your build series. 😀

Hope everything will turn out fine and feasible.
Although the watertank will have to have a rethinking—thing done, regarding the approach angle.
Sorry for my poor English. Still have not learned it properly.
Anyway... Have a SUPER Weekend.
It is fascinating to watch you and see all this progress and Development.

You’ll get it all sorted my friends. So pleased you’re getting the mechanicals checked and serviced at this stage. So many others seem to leave it to chance and then seem surprised when they experience failures. Keep at it!

G'day boy the bureaucrats are everywhere but at least it will be classified with the right papers which makes insurance a bit easier. The two of you have come a bloody long way with this build and you have done a great job and as you said you pick things up as you go. The cupboard is going to look great but are you having a kick rail underneath it because if you are you could run night lighting or mood lighting on it out of the way. The stairwell looks really professional, while you are doing some switch work, don't forget the CB radio and aerial. There is one thing that you wouldn't know it's there until you are under the bonnet at night and that is to wire up a bonnet light of got one and it's great thing to have. Anyway guys great to see you and stay PS things get old and brittle and me
