I was extremely poor growing up. I became best friends with one of the richest kids and the first time he invited me over i could not believe my eyes. They had a GAME ROOM. A whole room just for video games. It was crazy to me because we always had so many people in such a small house every inch was taken by someone. They had a backyard i never had a backyard before. They had a huge pantry with tons of snacks you could grab anytime. I was awestruck. He didnt act like this tho they were very sweet people.

I grew up with a friend like this, his parents were loaded and spoiled the shit out of him. I could not stand him but his parents loved me and always took care of me. He ended up becoming a junkie and his parents cut him off, he moved to Cali with a bunch of money he stole from them and hasnt been seen since, I still visit his parents all the time and they always try to give me stuff or money but I almost always reject them now and visit because I know they miss him and see me as a 2nd son

I had a bunch of super rich friends growing up and they and their family were the nicest people you could ever imagine. They never saw me as less than them just because my mom was poor and they gave me some of the coolest experiences I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. What I did notice is that they have their own problems too. One of my friends dads was always traveling and it put a strain on his parents relationship and although he could have whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, he seemed super uninterested and unhappy with all of it. I also had a friend from Hungary whose parents were poor when they moved to the US but built their own wealth through hardwork and determination. I had never had warm chocolate milk and thought it was strange but when i tried it, i loved it. I also ate what I originally thought was steak and commented on how delicious it was before his mom asked me if i knew what it was. Turns out it was cow tongue and even though my initial response was that of being grossed out, i pushed that feeling aside because of how good it was. If it weren't for all those people when i was growing up, i probably wouldn't be as open minded to different lifestyles, cultures, or experiences. Unfortunately they'll never know how much they impacted me because I ended up moving just a few years later and was too young to show how appreciative I am

The thing is that it’s literally not that off the mark 😭 in my sophomore year of college I spent a couple days celebrating Thanksgiving with a rich friend at their place, and I even got my own guest room and bathroom there. But there wasn’t any toilet paper, and so I asked him if I could just get an extra roll he had or something. And he literally went and told his parents, and I saw his mom literally sternly talk to their butler. I felt so awful for it.
