The white paint is usually a special kind of soil called the tilak mati. It's smooth and unlike chandan its not brittle. So it's used to draw on the bride and is also used by dancers.
The lyrics which says, mati ko ye chandan sa mathe pe lagaye re... Refers to this practice of adorning the forehead with tilak mati which almost resembles sandalwood paste (chandan)
