A former marine told me "No good sniper believes the Earth is flat." Seemed like a strange claim, but after he explained it to me because of the corioles effect. And if you are thinking of it as a flat object instead of a sphere, you are gonna mess up all the time.

20 mins to say "because a torso is an easier target"...

Snipers don't completely avoid head shots. It takes more resources to deal with wounded soldiers than dead soldiers, but head shots have a big psychological impact on an enemy, you can't just wound all targets and still create the level of fear that they want. .

5:25 I saw an air-softer using a ghillie suit made of trash for urban terrain and it was ridiculously effective.

I’m a long range shooter, not a sniper, and the Corliolis Effect is not even calculated until we are shooting over 800 yards.

The math of war!
A dead soldier leaves a mother and wife in tears, and a handicapped soldier consumes a lot of resources for a long time

tldr: Big caliber rifles are also deadly if someone gets hit in the torso. That is just the easier target.

In British sniper teams, both the spotter and shooter have rifles... if the shooter misses, the spotter has their back.

I'm a Canadian veteran, I was qualified as a sharpshooter. I can shoot. I grew up hunting, I've never taken the sniper course. I can tell you though from experience the head moves too much. You can't guarantee a hit on a moving target at long distances. Center mass is a hell of a lot easier to hit.

Principles of marksmanship was one of the 1st things Australian Army recruits were taught. I wasn't much of a soldier but I still remember these nearly 30 years later.

The embedded war reporter ask the sniper what do you feel after a kill shot? The sniper replied, "Recoil"

Shooting at and hitting a target that's 300 yds/m away is NOT "sniping". I did that last weekend with a generic AR-15. Every US Marine qualifies on the rifle with targets up to 500 yds away with a regular (i.e. NOT match/sniper tuned) service rifle. It's the ranges BEYOND that that make the difference. Moreover, it's the fieldcraft of moving into and moving out of the shooting position undetected that differentiates a sniper from a sharpshooter. "Sniping" is 90% fieldcraft and 10% marksmanship.

Alas, a recently retired Commandant of the Marine Corps decided that snipers are no longer needed in the Marine Corps. I'm confident we're going to regret that decision. We did the last time we made it.

When Chuck Norris shoots a gun, he doesn’t aim, the bullet knows not to miss.

I was in the US Marines in the later half of the 70's. I had a friend who wanted to be a Scout Sniper really bad. At that time He and I really saw snipers as someone that did nothing but sit in high spots and kill enemy with mind boggling shots. He was a good shot, so what more do you need. He got accepted into the Scout Sniper training program and found the job was a lot more than just sitting in a high spot and killing enemy. He did not do well with all the physical and technical aspects. Needles to say he did not become a Scout Sniper.

I was with H&S 3rd Batt 24th scout snipers. This whole video is is a “text book” explanation of a sniper. Although the video is not all wrong, it’s kinda meh. The idea of rarely taking headshots is just not true. The largest mass visible is the best opportunity for a hit. We don’t shoot to wound. This video gets a C grade at best.

Because a torso is a bigger target and because wounding one soldier takes two other soldiers trying to save him out of the engagement. Didn't watch the video, did i get it right?

Snipers do not normally assemble and disassemble rifles in the field, and most of all, they would avoid ever taking off the scope. Scopes on sniper rifles are not normally mounted with quick detach mounts, and even if they were, there is an unnecessary risk of introducing a deviation when remounting a scope.
The safest way to actually hitting a target is: rifle out of the bag/box, loaded magazine into the rifle, chamber a round, dial in, shoot, magazine out, cartridge out, rifle back in the bag/box. No fiddling around with any parts unless you absolutely have to.
