Vandal destroys iconic Leavenworth park with pick up truck

A city loved for its holiday cheer, iconic Christmas Lighting Festival and adorned with more than 500,000 lights during the winter months was vandalized late Saturday night.

The lawn area of Front Street Park in the popular "Bavarian Village" of Leavenworth is temporarily closed after a truck spun around doing donuts on the grass, spraying mud, and causing pedestrians to run to safety.

"We will rise above it. We are Christmas Town USA, and we take pride in what we offer people," said Leavenworth Mayor Carl Florea. "It is disappointing. This is an iconic hill. It is known all over the place."

I remember going there many years ago. Leavenworth, Washington is modeled after Alpine village in Bavaria. Anyone goes to California, check out Solvang. It is a town modeled after a Danish village in the Santa Ynez Valley which is about hour and a half drive from Downtown Los Angeles.
