Laser brazing of aluminum with CAVILUX Laser illumination

Researchers at BIAS (Bremer Institut für Angewandte Strahltechnik GmbH, Germany) have used CAVILUX Laser Illumination to improve the understanding of laser brazing of aluminum. The filler wire used is AlSi12. Laser brazing is often used in the automotive manufacturing industry when steel sheets in areas such as the roof of the car are connected to body joints or other joints. Laser brazing has lower heat input as compared to laser welding and it also enables better surface quality. However, when used on aluminum it presents certain challenges and effects.
