I was literally thinking of downloading my tree last night, so I could start adding them to other websites. I ended up not because I wasn't sure if it was worth it or if it would be difficult. You've answered both my questions in this video 🤗 It is absolutely worth it, and no, it is not difficult at all. Thanks!! 💚

Hi Aimee! I found you today and I’ve binge watched as much as I could so far. I’ll definitely be watching all of your videos.
What would you suggest when trying to find someone that just disappeared? I found this guy in a newspaper article but I can’t find him on the census before or after that date. It’s like he’s a ghost! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have a question that I need help with. I would like to create an exact duplicate of one of my trees, with all the media attached, to see if I can make a major adjustment to it. I don't want to have to copy everything one by one, as the tree is VERY extensive and copying it that way would take forever.

The reason I need to do this is because when I first created my tree, all I knew about my 4th great-grandmother was that her name was Mary Howland, she married John B. Topham, and was married on June 24, 1790 in Maugerville, Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada. Based on this, I assumed that Mary was the daughter of Jeremiah Howland (descended from John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley of the Mayflower) and his wife Mary Bubar (Bubier, Booby, Buber, etc.). I knew that Jeremiah and his wife were known by the Mayflower Society to have had 5 children, including two daughters but the names of the children were all unknown.

A few years later, I came across another Ancestry member tree that had my 4th great-grandparents on it, but had Mary Howland Topham as Jeremiah's widow, so had her identified as Mary Bubier. By that time, I had extensively fleshed out the Howland branch of the tree.

Prior to that, it had never occurred to me that she could have been Jeremiah's widow, because it was known that Jeremiah Howland and wife Mary were both still living in 1786, but that Jeremiah had died at some unknown point prior to 1796. I just assumed both Jeremiah and Mary were still living when John B. Topham married Mary Howland. The marriage record does not record any age, marital status, or parentage, so cannot resolve the matter. I found a number of documents spanning more than 20 years that circumstantially linked John B. Topham with a young Jeremiah Howland and a Samuel Howland who I assumed were brothers to each other and to Mary. But the documents would equally well support a case that she was their mother, rather than their sister.

More and more, however, I have come to feel that Mary was more likely to have been Jeremiah's widow than his daughter. One of Mary's daughters, Mary Topham Duke, was later in life re-baptized into the Catholic Church (her Anglican baptism was in 1793) and Donat Robichaud's Genealogical works quoted the french-language baptismal record, which identified her as the daughter of Marie Bobey. Initially I thought that was an error, that given the 18th century practice of giving children their mother's maiden name as a middle name, that Mary Topham Duke's mother's birth name had been Mary Bubier Howland prior to her marriage to Topham. But now I think that line in the record clearly identified her as Mary Bubier, widow of Jeremiah Howland.

How to rectify the relationship without totally destroying my tree I have no idea. In any case, since I do not know for certain that Mary was the widow, I don't want to make such a major change on my existing tree, just in case I ever turned up any documentation that showed she was actually the daughter instead. So I want two versions of the tree, to show both possibilities.

Do you have any suggestions on how I might accomplish all this?

Hi Aimee! This has been most helpful to me. I have downloaded my tree to my computer but when I went to open it on my computer, I can't read it. I tried opening it in Adobe, but that won't read it either. What do I do now? Or do I have to upload it to a family tree program? Thanks for your help.

Is Family Tree Maker still a viable software option? It looks like the last official release was 2019, although supposedly a 2024 version is coming. Any idea if the 2019 and 2024 versions will sync with Ancestry?
