U.S. Grant the best nickname I've ever seen

There’s something about a working class, man who rises through the ranks to become the highest ranking military officer in the United States to crush an opposing army consisting of what was considered the top tier, hereditary aristocratic classes of the nation.

A meritocratic system beats everything

And thus a nickname almost as cool as "stonewall jackson" was created, "unconditional surrender grant" and damn would the confederates be hearing it a lot more

At the moment America needed a titan to save itself. There was Grant. The prime example of American excellence.

Our nation's history is filled with badass dudes like Unconditional Surrender Grant.🇺🇸! All myths and BS aside there are men in the ground today whose actions while alive laid the groundwork for the nation and society we have today. It's constantly challenged and changing but the roots are that we the US of A are a free people who take no sh*t. Never perfect but willing to learn and adapt and to this day we are still the same United States of America from fighting off the British empire to crushing a rebellion that split the nation and fighting 2 global wars we are still here.💪🏼 In honor of Grant I've got a 50 dollar bill with his face on it I'll be getting some Horse Soldier Bourbon with. Cheers 🥃🦅

Overall, unconditional surrender worked out pretty well for US enemies (as compared to surrendering to contemporary nations, let alone older examples). It meant no standards but what Americans imposed on themselves, and once you're not fighting you're just another future trading partner.

What I don’t get is what did pemberton expect? Grant would just let them go like “ alright boys, see ya next battle “ lol . They’re lucky they didn’t all eat a bullet for treason.

Grant should have washed his hand after this....

The south believed Pemberton let them down because he was a northerner.

Should have shown him with his long-ass beard around the time of Shiloh.
