John Adam Belushi (January 24, 1949 — March 5, 1982) was an American comedian, actor and musician of Albanian descent, and one of the seven original cast members of the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). Throughout his career, Belushi had a personal and artistic partnership with his fellow SNL star Dan Aykroyd, whom he met while they were both working at Chicago's The Second City comedy club. In his personal life, Belushi struggled with heavy drug use that threatened his comedy career; he was dismissed and rehired at SNL on several occasions due to his behavior.

At approximately 12:00pm PDT on Friday, March 5, 1982, Belushi's fitness trainer and occasional bodyguard Bill Wallace arrived at Belushi's bungalow at the Chateau Marmont to deliver a typewriter and audiocassette recorder because Belushi had requested them the previous day. Wallace found Belushi dead, with no one else present in the bungalow. The cause of death was combined drug intoxication involving cocaine and heroin, a drug combination known as a speedball. Belushi's death was investigated by forensic pathologist Michael Baden, among others, and while the findings were disputed, it was officially ruled a drug-related accident.

Belushi's wife arranged for a traditional Orthodox Christian funeral that was conducted by an Albanian Orthodox priest. He was interred at Abel's Hill Cemetery in Chilmark, Massachusetts, on Martha's Vineyard. Belushi's tombstone has a skull and crossbones with the inscription, "I may be gone but Rock and Roll lives on." His body was removed and reburied in an unmarked grave nearby due to fans littering on his original grave. His mother's tombstone at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois, has Belushi's name inscribed on it and thus serves as a cenotaph.

My dad went to high school and was friends with Jim and John in Wheaton IL. He's got a scar on his shin caused by John. They were riding bicycles together and crashed into each other. There's several pictures of Jim, John and my father horsing around together in their yearbook. He's pretty proud of that. I don't blame him.

Thanks for sharing Scott. It's a shame they had to move him and he can't be with his family. You are right there is no need to be disrespectful, leave a stone, a flower, say a prayer, or just think of him.

It’s terrible that people would desecrate the headstone by taking chips of it. That is so disrespectful to John and to his family. His widow was right to move him to an unmarked grave.

Belushi was to America what Candy was to Canada. Very true. America's court jester. I can remember every scene he was in. How sad that his widow had to put his body in an unmarked grave. I hope you can show us his actual grave is in the future. Thank you Scott this one is close to my heart.

So many talented people passed so young and sudden. At least we get to enjoy them in movies. Love this video Scott.

This whole time I thought I was subscribed, your videos really pay great respect and give a closeness to those you visit. My mother was a huge fan as I am of John’s. The closest she ever got to meeting the Belushi family was when she was a waitress over 20 years ago while she was working herself through the University to become a teacher. She was working at Gold Mine which was a restaurant by the old Children’s Memorial Hospital when Jim Belushi was having dinner with a friend there. Her friend that was a waitress and has sadly since passed away kind of got star struck and wouldn’t stop bothering Jim Belushi while he was having dinner so my mom was asked to replace her. My mom said Jim was a very nice customer and she couldn’t help but think of his brother as she served him but did her darndest to be professional. She was so happy to have been his waitress. I just wanted to share that, a memory of my mom’s. She did become a teacher and sadly passed away this year from Covid right before she got a chance to retire. I just remember her excitement and happiness from that night. Both John and Jim to my mom were great. I know I’ve remained a fan of the Belushi’s since a kid because my mom.

John Belushi was a gift from God. He gave us the best gift of all, laughter. He died way way to young. RIP JOHN. You will never be forgotten.

My wife and I rented a moped on Martha's Vineyard last week and drove all the way out to his real grave site. I saw no evidence of damage to his headstone. I did see many tokens, coins, stones, and momentos left by people who were touched by his talent. The grave is in a beautiful old cemetery and in a small grove.

Can't believe people are actually chiseling parts of the stone away. That's some ridiculous BS.
