Chimney demolition in Akranes

The old cement factory in Akranes in southwest Iceland went out of business and and subsequently demolished. Only the tall chimney remained and a few concrete walls surrounding the area.

On March 22, 2019, the chimney was scheduled for demolition.

A small crowd gathered in the village to watch this event. Watch how the tall chimney was cut in half by a controlled demolition.
