Even if people donate to get money, why does it matter so much? It’s not like their blood gets disqualified because they didn’t donate for the right reasons. Is the patients’ body gonna say, ‘ oh, this blood was donated by someone who wanted money. ‘

That blood is still helping people and saving lives. Maybe think about the patients more than the intentions of people donating ? As a doctor, thank you to all the people who donate. Your blood is in fact, saving lives.

“…and to all the pessimists out there, I hope one day you’ll learn that you can also be useful. ”
👏👏👏 love this, shut them up Lisa!

I rely on donated immunoglobulin and platelets to stay alive. My life expectancy is still very short, but it would be over already if not for people like you, and that allows me in turn to write and educate others while I can. Anyone who complains about that or feels the need to get pedantic over words and reasons is ignoring those of us who are impacted by other people’s sacrifice—no matter WHY they’re doing it!

Even if somebody donates for money - it literally doesn't matter because in the end somebody gets to live a day longer, and for some people who donate for money that makes two people. A good deed done for money is still a good deed unless you personally create artificial scarcity and then do a good deed to appear as a saviour

I swear some people are more obsessed with being sassy and having that gotcha moment then actually doing good and being useful

I donate plasma and have been donating since I was 18 (now I’m 27)
Why?
Bc The extra money has always been helpful ($500-850 a month depending on how much they decide to give us each year for our donation) bc I’ve always been one check away from homelessness and actually been homeless before.
I’m not ashamed to admit I go for the money first and help people is an added benefit.

I use to work at a cancer hospital and made good friends while working there. We found out one day that a co-worker of ours was keeping his leukemia on the DL and after we found out he admitted hisself into the hospital for treatment. Our whole department donated platelets. No one got paid from this other than receiving a huge thank you from our friend which would eventually recover. I offered one story to the thousands or millions of cases that exist. Please donate if you can. It will save a life.

I’m terrified of needles and sometimes can’t watch when you go to donate, but so so admirable that you’re out here saving lives. With the free time you have you are helping others, what a fabulous role model

If you're donating platelets for money, the important thing is that you're still donating them. I can't currently donate blood because of my iron levels (and my body's refusal to find a vein) so I can't, but I'm so happy you do!

As someone with a lifelong illness who requires regular transfusions, THANK YOU.

Posting about it also brings awareness to the need for platelet donations. Not everyone knows about it. 😊

As a girl with a severe bleeding disorder and LOTS of health issues that require frequent transfusions, thank you thank you THANK YOU! You really are saving lives out there!! If I could donate my own blood, I’d donate every damn drop I could because of what those donations have done for me. Thanks for helping those of us who need it, all over ❤

- Ohioan with VWD and severe iron deficient anemia 🫡 those who may not know the struggle don’t understand just what you’re doing. But to the rest of us, you’re a HERO

There’s always a select few who are SO miserable, they feel the need to ruin good things other people do/experience for their own amusement. They’re leeches. Ignore them!

Thank you so very much, my wife was on around the clock platelets for 2 months at the beginning of her recovery from APL. You (among others) saved the life of a mother of young children ❤

My dad had aggressive leukemia and donated platelets saved his life many times. I don’t care if someone is paid for donating or not, either way donating platelets, blood, or stem cells is an act of great kindness and can literally save someone’s life. Thank you for helping others!

I was hospitalized for low hemoglobin and blood levels related complications twice recently, and honestly whoever donated all that blood, I really appreciated them. I'm terrified I may be the kind of person who will have to rely on blood donations or transfusions for at least the next 20-30 years of my life. I really appreciate people who donate and if they receive money for it good for them. Even better. They deserve a reward for everyone they help.
