Each fingertip has thousands of touch receptors.  When the receptors are stimulated by touch, neurons fire signals via nerves to the spinal cord, brain stem, thalamus, and finally the cerebral cortex for processing.

Visual: Sensory writing trays allow kids to see how their fingers create letters and words.
