I live in Texas and I was vary anti EV. But I have changed my mind. Battery technology has come so far in the last three years. It's incredibly.

I am currently using my 82.5 kWh LFP battery from my BYD Seal AWD to power my house. It is the equivalent of 6 Tesla PowerWalls. I have given my electric meter back and use my solar system and EV instead - videos on my channel for the doubters.

Actual usable life is typically a lot more than the warranty window.

What this means is that the residual value of used EVs will soar. When the body is worn out the battery pack will still have value for grid storage. And then can be almost 100% recyclable so additional value for embedded materials.

Hang in their Electric Viking. You have lots of critics. I am a fan of yours NOT because I believe everything you say, but because you make me think, do my own research and then make an informed decision. I think your videos bring great insight and valuable information.

Today some guy called me stupid and naive for liking Teslas. So I explained all the benefits, including the decrease in gas and coal peaker plants, etc. He just got really angry. I asked him why this bothers him so much... especially when they accelerate faster, and cost 1/5 the money to 'fuel'. He accused me of 'drinking some kind of government kool-aid.' (brainwashed) There's no getting through to them, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why people are like that. How does being that way benefit them?

My Kia EV6 had no apparent degradation last summer at 90k miles. Charging to 90% often reached 290+ miles of range. Currently, I have 164k. Looking forward to spring and summer temperatures to get back to full range again. Very pleased with her so far.

This is the battery that ive been waiting for! This battery pack will increase the resale value of any EV its installed into and will for sure prevent resale values from plummeting! I could even see this battery tech making EVs lose max 1.25% per year in depreciation! This battery needs to be installed into the cybertruck and every model 3 and model Y.

1000 cycles times 500 km is not 50, 000 km, Sam. It's 500, 000 km.

Um, the only thing remarkable about this battery is the warranty, which is extremely remarkable. Manufacturer are only guaranteeing 100k miles so a jump to 1M miles will finally shut up all the trolls out there claiming the battery dies the day after the warranty expires.

LFP batteries have 4500 cycles. You multiply that by the max range of the pack to get the total miles. Any 300 mile LFP battery pack can easily do 1M miles already, it’s just not under warranty.

CATL makes the best battery. Can you imagine the depreciation of the current EVs using Korean and Japanese batteries.

Reckon Australia should be inviting CATL to come over to help build factory for electric storage battery and batteries for ev for export and local usage since we have one of the highest lithium deposit on earth. If we have leadership of Keating caliber perhaps....

So exciting! Thank you, Sam, for keeping us updated on the latest battery improvements!

It's GM that is "manufacturing under license, " and CATL that is "licensing the technology to GM" or "granting a license to GM." Unfortunately, the term "licensing" is used in both senses of the word today and it does nothing but promote confusion. Even in business reports, the term "licensed to" is so ubiquitous that one does not know if it means giving permission or granting permission. "out-licensing" and "in-licensing" aimed to bring some clarity to this but it is not frequently used in the popular press.

I'm typing this on a PC powered from sunlight that fell on my roof, and has been stored in a battery that spent 8 years in a Gen1 nissanleaf, until the owner carelessel wrote it off in a crash. That battery now sits in my garage, and allows me to leverage cheap off-peak and solar energy. Sometimes that battery even actually charges MY ev that sits on the drive outside (when we have nice sunny days). People think that "old" automotive batteries are worthless but the truth is they are not, not by a long shot. "My" leaf battery had around 24kWh of capacity when new, now, some 10 years of use later (8 in the leaf, 2 in my house) it has around 17kWh. Thing is, even in this "degraded" state (71% SoH) it easily has enough capacity and power capability to run my entire house. And a Gen1 leaf is by modern standards a very small capacity, low power

The demand from Swedish truck maker SCANIA onto the Swedish battery maker North Volt has also been about 1, 6 million km/1 million miles. The battery maker said, after tests, it's no problem to make such a battery. Last year!

Every month we get to know about new technologies . This seems to be normal! I just wonder how many people are involved in improving the batteries?

And yet I still see so many people saying things like "the battery needs replacing after 5 years" etc. So many of these people have been fed BS, and refuse to research what's happening. I just laugh. I cant wait till the model 3 ludicrous comes out here in Aus. Tesla rock.

YES! New battery breakthrough. The 17th this year.

Great advance. After 150, 00 miles on your junk yard ready EV there would still be a valuable battery. YouTube has a vid of a stationary energy storage unit using old Nissan leaf batteries which is so cool.
