Tropics Waking Up - New areas of interest to track

It's no secret that the tropical regions have been struggling so far this year, but change appears to be on the way with a potent tropical wave in the open Atlantic. This area of interest is garnering more model support today, and could become a tropical storm or hurricane as it heads for the Lesser Antilles this weekend. The forecast is very uncertain in terms of both track and intensity, and a recurve is possible as it progresses further westwards.

Another area of interest, Invest 94L, is situated northwest of Colombia and is likely to drift into Central America in the next few days, where it will cause more heavy rainfall over the region. Due to land interaction, formation of this system is unlikely.

In the Western Pacific, a tropical disturbance is currently traversing the Philippine island of Mindanao, and could become a brief tropical storm as it heads over the Sulu Sea and South China Sea in the next couple of days. However, it's more likely that this system will remain a weak low pressure area as it curves northwards towards southeastern China and Taiwan.

Long range modelling is showing a storm for the Eastern Pacific on July 8 or July 9, which would mark the latest start to the Pacific hurricane season in the satellite era.

That my friends is the Atlantic Nina also trying to develop. There is relatively little research into how it helps or hinders Atlantic tropical development but we did see a similar pattern develop in 2005 and 2020.

There is a potential large cyclone that can form in the Atlantic ocean and hit Nicaragua as a Category 1 Hurricane
