Since Garmadon opened the portal to allow the Anacondrai generals to escape the cursed realm and cause Chen's army to go in, Morro was able to get out since the door was open for that short time.

The Ninja have always used their powers through something as they haven't properly trained to access them without aid. First it was through physical items (Golden Weapons and Elemental Blades) and after Lloyd gave up some of his power the ninja could use them freely but now they have an elemental link with Lloyd so if anything were to happen him (if he were to die or in this case become possessed by someone) they would lose their powers.

This was a dumb probability calc, Wolfe's chance of losing to freeze was 8% not 0.11%. This exact game state had a roughly 0.11% chance of occuring.
