Bald Eagle - Red-tailed Hawk Air To Air, 3/30/2016 (HD)

A Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) flying over an open grassy area is confronted by a Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) in mid air. A super slow-motion replay is provided. 3/30/2016. (Slow-motion video, no audio, available in high definition.)

It’s fascinating to watch birds of prey maneuver in the air. They do barrel rolls, dives, spins, etc like it’s nothing. Better than any airshow imo

Eagle turned around and explained exactly how that would go, hawk backed up.

That is the closest to an axial (aileron) roll I've ever seen a bird do. Frigging Amazing.

Large predatory birds tend to be powerful and deadly to smaller birds BUT smaller birds are nearly always much more maneuverable than then. I've often seen crows, hawks and even a bald eagle get chased away by much smaller birds.
Once, though, I saw a hawk, crow and bluejay in a three-way aerial fight where none of the three birds backed down. It was awesome.

The eagle version of showing someone you’re strapped 😂 that was awesome the way the eagle rolled over to show those massive talons! So cool

Wow. It's as though the Eagle has eyes in the back of his head. He's able to roll his body 180 degrees in mid-flight, like a jet fighter, exposing his much larger talons.

I once saw such a maneuver by a red-tailed hawk defending his recently fledged youngster. The fledgling was laboring in the air with about 12 crows mobbing it. The fledgling was losing altitude when its sire swooped in between it and the crows, turned upside down and displayed its talons. The crows decided to do something else - anything else. The adult lost no altitude in upside-down flight.
