Absolutely fascinating the mainframe is.
Thanks for a quick summary on how the mainframe has evolved and therefore, remains essential even in modern times.

I couldn't believe that there are so many companies who still uses the old way, by copy-pasting some resources, keeping packages out of artifactory, manually testing everything and even using TFS as a source control, but yeah..there are.

Since we are talking more about Java in Mainframe space it's time to add IBM Z Open Editor support in IntelliJ IDEA which is a preferred IDE for Java and can be the same for Mainframe languages like COBOL, JCL, REXX..

How does this apply to the situation that you are managing a rather complex and large platform, multiple servers, different applications for a number of user groups, and the development of functionalty and application is almost 100% configuration in various portions of the UI? For the most of the part there is no source code, but a lot of admin activity defining things according to decisions made in various steering groups? And we are strictly in a on prem infrastructure.

this video it's more an help request of a developer forced to work on mainframe XD Don't get me wrong i actually work on mainframe and it's true it need modernitazation ... but it's an old story. Except from testing and other things mainframe is actually integrated with other techonlogies(you can dialoge with java front end an whatevere you want), simple is not "easy" to use, so it's very complicated to sell to mainframe's clients a modernization that in reality is more a quality of life tips for developers ... spoiler a bank simple don't care about quality of life of a developer ! Most important a mainframe modernization cost a lot(even only for calculate the cost) and almost no big manager wants to make now a modernization (with a lot of problem and risk) for maybe get in future some benefits. However IF IBM care so much in modernization can simply force the modernization stoppping actual support for old way mainfram spoiler 2: they dont do it because it make a lot of money on mainframe xD
