Didn't Dr Tyson mean Latin instead of French? From Latin for heat, calor, we have the unit calorie (Joules needed to increase the temperature of1cm² of water by 1°C). The French word for energy sounds a lot like the English actually. In fact, heat is a transfer of kinetic energy, not the energy itself. Yet, we also call thermal energy, the sum of all forms of transfer of kinetic energy, heat energy, in agreement with Neal's point. Needless to say, I completely flunked this course in college.
