Newly elected US House Speaker Mike Johnson says first bill he will introduce will support Israel

The new speaker of the US House of Representatives has put forward a resolution supporting Israel in its war on Gaza.

The election of Mike Johnson on Wednesday followed bids by three other candidates that failed to win enough support from hardline Republicans.
The Louisiana congressman is an ally of former President Donald Trump.
The chamber has been unable to pass any laws since Kevin McCarthy was ousted more than three weeks ago.
