The company's attitude stinks! No further updates = defunct hardware, oh well, bin it and get a new one! So much for save the planet!!

TOS, maybe the new pinebook would be a good alternative. Similar specs and feel, but running an actual Linux OS like Mint Mate whee the user has control over their system.

You want to use Gallium OS because they have different builds that depend on which Chromebook you have. I have an acer 720 so mine uses the Haskell build which is specific for my hardware.

I thought there was something called crouton that you can use to install a distro onto a Chromebook. I never looked into this though.

Only issue with this is not all chromebooks are supported by this yet. My chromebook is EOL, but support is spotty right now. Might look in to recycling it if I can't get this to work for it.

I’ve been running Gallium OS for years. No problems. It feels like Xubuntu optimized for a Chromebook.

I'm confuse that how a brand new Acer Chromebook I bought in 2019 already be expired?

I bought an original Pixel a couple years ago for $200 (originally $1100). My first PC that was never contaminated with Windows! And a i5 processor, hi-res screen and solid build.
I tried crouton ... meh. I tried a few distros I had on flash drives, Mint, Kubuntu, Manjaro, but all had issues with the touchscreen, audio, wifi, or something else. I installed Gallium as a dual boot and haven't looked back. It's Debian based so .deb files install. I thought XFCE was going to be boring but it's very customizable and will run on the cheaper Chromebooks. I use a SD card for extra storage.

Could you make an arch installation video?
A lot of people are getting into Arch lately it seams. Not just Manjaro and these other "newbie" friendly arch derivatives.
And also, have you ever tried Linux from scratch?

ya my mom had a chomebook it was out dated 2 years after she bought it at bestbuy. an it had a intel i3 6gb of ram 64gb ssd, it was one of the more capable devices . theres no way chrome os would requireanything more than that. so i installed Chromium OS the opensource version of chrome os an its still running and getting update
