When the TV and radio news broadcasts delivered the sad news in 1995 (more than a year after his final season aired), it was such a bad shock to admirers of "The Joy of Painting" show. Really, it wasn't like the guy was elderly-- he was 52, and the public had no idea he had even been sick. I was kind of floored at this reveal. Then I remembered that I had started watching Bob in the mid 1980s (my high school and college years), when he started becoming a mainstay of public television channels. TJOP was the most relaxing program on television back then. Sometimes I would nod off, have a nice little doze session when he worked on his clouds and trees and mountains. At one point in the late '80s I began recording some of his episodes on a VHS cassette, ended up compiling an eight hour marathon to play at my leisure.

I'm very pleased to see so much love for him today from people who enjoy his instruction videos and his gentle, soft-spoken demeanor. Really, to make others so happy the way that Bob did ... what could be better?

This is so incredibly sad! I cried as well. Bob knew this was the end as he was so sick. I am grateful there are 31 amazing seasons of The Joy of Painting for everyone to enjoy. His work, legacy, message is timeless. Will go on forever! Rest in paradise Bob! I hope you and all the animals you helped are reunited. Say hi to Peapod for me! ❤️🐾

I know that there aren't any tears where you are but there are plenty of them here without you. The world is a much darker place without you. Thank you so much for the joy and happiness you spread throughout the world in the short time you were here.

I haven’t the words to express what this show has meant to me. I began in the 80s watching Bob with my wife and enjoying giving her back rubs while he relaxed us with his soothing voice and painting technique. When his show came back on Amazon Prime, Lori and I lay in bed watching TJOP as Bob lulled us into a peaceful sleep. My Lori died over 6 years ago and Bob has been gone even longer. I still watch the show and have never grown tired of the peace and sweet memories that each episode brings back to me. Sometimes the tears run down my cheeks, remembering my Lori and missing the dear man who made so much of life a pleasant painting when he graced my television screen.

The only time that I have watched this show was when I couldn't sleep when I was a little kid, and my mom put it on to help me calm down. I do know that many people hold this wonderful dude close to their hearts. R.I.P. Bob, you have been and will forever be missed.

❤️ Today (Sept 25, 2023) is my daughter’s 19th birthday. We did a day trip and the Fall leaves were extraordinarily beautiful. As we drove, she said to me, “These leaves are a gift in themselves. And I think they’re from Bob Ross.” My sweet girl brought me back to Bob Ross a few years ago, which is also a gift. Bob Ross is the gifted, loving man who keeps on giving to all of us. ❤️
