Air pollution in India's capital Delhi has soared to extremely severe levels, choking residents and engulfing the city in thick smog.

Authorities have announced further restrictions of construction activities and vehicle movements in the city to combat worsening air quality.

According to measurements by Swiss air quality group IQAir, Delhi has surpassed Lahore in Pakistan as the world's most polluted city.

However, Lahore is still experiencing severe air pollution, with schools, universities and parks closed and a lockdown planned, to limit the damage.

I visited Delhi 20 years ago, and the situation was still the same. Toxic in the air, pollution, and no action from the government. This has been going on for years. It is an ongoing problem that hasn't been solved for years. I have been to Kuwait, an oil nation, and I don't see pollution there.

My Wife is Indian and we visited Delhi last year. I couldn't believe my eyes when reading the local weather forecast and it said smoke! Also it's not a requirement there to have catalytic converters or any form of pollution control on vehicles I was told. There aren't rubbish collections either, everyone just burns it off in the street. The video looks like it's showing one of the approach roads to the Government buildings which you can't see because of the smog.
