In the 80's, I was sponsored by Brooks, and wore Brooks' spikes pacing John Walker in the invitational mile at the Brooks Meet in Berkeley, when he held the world record. Then, Nikes were faster shoes based on the natural pronation built into their lasts used in manufacturing. Today, Kerr is flaunting his 'Brooks Carbon Elite 4' carbon-fiber plated shoes. Their shoes have improved! Kerr broke the 5th Ave. mile record by 3.22 seconds, likely by more than the advantage provided by the carbon fiber plate.
