One pro tip is that both Google (under Tools) and Start Page have an "any time" option where you can then select "past year", so you get the most recently available answers, which will better relate to your version, or the previous version which should still be of help!

Another tip and something that I do use a lot, get a snapshot of the problem. Pictures are worth a thousand words, and they can easily describe the problem to others because they can actually see what's going on. Even a small video can help.

Yes, be verbose with your issues!!!

Edit: in moderation. Look at point number 1, but be specific. Word soup does not equal being verbose. Also look at Gentoo forums. It might help

P.s. When posting your issue in a forum or on reddit, say the following in some way
-gpu make/model (Desktop Environment can be affected for example)
-cpu (architecture can matter on some packages or libraries very rare)
- os (EndeavourOS is not Arch and Pop!_OS isn't Ubuntu or Debian. With build it yourself state your build ie Gentoo pulseaudio wayland hyprland)
-the main issue
-when it started
-and what youve done so far to remedy this. Posting a question without showing any effort or work will get less feedback

I just took a look at ChatGPT (i.e. Skynet that will probably kill us all). This is actually a valuable resource for finding answers about Linux.

Maybe I missed hearing it, but taking proper screenshots. It is quite annoying when someone wants to show an error and take the picture with their phone. It always looks bad and is hard to read.

This was my frustration with Microsoft products: trying to find the exact words to describe the problem--i.e., trying to work out how Microsoft is abusing the English language in that particular case.

Matt: we watch your videos from Nuuk, Greenland and thank you for for approach and efforts. Merry Xmas and all the best. Cheers!

Sometimes it's a multistep process. Real noob example: black screen on startup of EndeavourOS after update. I googled that and did not find an answer; but I did find a mention of Xorg.<n>.log. Looking at the log file (via ctrl-alt-F2 or SSH) I saw that a driver file was not found. Googled that file name and found advice to install a particular driver package. But it was already installed! Googled that package name and found a mention that the particular driver had been removed from it, and that a legacy package was available. Aha!

lol copy paste the error into search engine and go from the rabbit hole we go! Only annoying part is supporting older OS in enterprise level you need to be specific with the version since newer solutions won't always work.

So... I shouldn't just go to the first Linux forum I find and say "My Linux is broken. How do I fix it?" 😂

1. Manpage 2. Google 3. Forum 4. Get told RTFM 5. Leave to Ubuntu
