Some very interesting & practical suggestions were made. Looking forwarded to binge watching the new channel once it comes out.

GeeDubs already use a Kickstarter model. It's called made to order. The major difference is that they use it for reproducing old & out of date stock instead of fresh new stock. It would be better if they did a made to order for certain box sets & then remove some of the fomo.

I'm happy to report that I have never suffered from FOMO. Keen to see the new channel.

Great suggestions. Honestly, I'm impressed how You can turn around FOMO and make it good, and not so predatory.

But I'm afraid it's pointless. GW is kind of monopolist, and until they don't lose this monopoly nothing changes, because they don't need to change.

I'm happy that You mention scalpers as a part of GW FOMO practices, because they are the feature. As long as scalpers exist, GW doesn't need to worry that they don't sell boxes. In this sale players don't matter, because company get their money, and due to Warhammer being "default game" will eventually buy new minis, paying more money to scalpers, giving them resources for new FOMO boxes. And the cycle starts over, and over again.

P.S. when a new channel starts? 🙂

This gives me hope that maybe in a parallel universe somewhere the new Sanguinary Guard actually came with wings thanks to all the preorders.

I feel like GW actually did this for Indomitus (not the extra incentives but the “hey guys we botched the release but anyone who buys one now will be guaranteed one”). It seems like they didn’t need to for leviathan.

Would it be cool if they did it for more things? Sure, but I wouldn’t count on it. Some box sets do better than others - you can still find the space marine Christmas box from last year at local game store. Same as the Custodes box from earlier this year. On the other hand, I’ve never seen a chaos marine box from 2024

GMT has a system kind of like this called p500, but it’s for boardgames.

Stretch-goals just mess up balance unless they are really just faux-goals.

Interesting ideas. I'm not a fan of Kickstarter because of the potential of not getting your stuff. Granted, I'm sure GW wouldn't have that issue. The stretch goal arguement is compelling though. Either way, thought provoking video.

If people knew how long it takes to properly paint up the stuff; they would realize that it's more fun to buy smaller stuff, paint it, play with it, and enjoy it properly. With these huge FOMOs, you're basically just getting more stuff for you to procrastinate. The value of choosing any Warhammer kit as your next kit, rather than being locked into what you thought looked cool or was a great value weeks or months ago outweighs any and all bundle savings; simple as. If you don't get the super exclusive terrain, who cares? Just buy it later. GW will make new terrain. If you must must must have the exact terrain that was only in the fomo box then never remade, you have job; just pay slightly more to buy it secondhand.

Even with the Killteam Duo Boxes, get them if you can, but only if you want everything in them. Otherwise, there are a lot of good teams you can enjoy while you're waiting the months for Nightlords to come out. Ironically Hivestorm is a good fomo box in this situation. It's such a good box, it should just be on the shelf as a permanent item like Age of Darkness or Battle of Osgiliath; no FOMO, just value. Examples of kind of crappy FOMOs overall, Skaventide and 100% of the Warcry boxes, which flopped legendarily, while Hivestorm has practically almost sold out.

If you just absolutely succumb to the FOMO, the guaranteed way to get any FOMO release at any time is to talk to the local GW a few days before it pre-orders, releases, or even after. You're paying MSRP and getting exactly what you want without ever having to do much work on your end. They usually get a few of the limited items, so I've gone in on like a Friday and seen stuff that was sold out in seconds on the day of pre-order.

But even then, they want to sell you stuff. They are putting cool stuff out in FOMO releases, but they making new cool stuff every week. You aren't ever saving money by spending more than you planned on. Realistically, you are going to keep buying more new releases, regardless of if you got the $265 box or the $65 one. You know what makes someone enthusiastic about the hobby? Having a smaller amount of nicely painted minis that you are eager to add to, the opposite of regret spending hundreds on a pile of unbuilt plastic that you now have to spend hundreds of dollars worth of hours to even get some use of. I could keep going on, but I'm just amazed that people kind of fall for these. We have FOMO boxes with 93 minis in them that are $300. Is the plan to just eventually put 1000 minis in a box and sell it at an insane, great value, can't miss FOMO discount of $1200?

GW has become overly predatorial and far too apathetic.

Prices go up and far quicker than reasonable, too many products are made with too few boxes or books to ship and there is little to no real concern for the out of control scalping, and now GW shows spite to older and new fans by gutting armies of models or the armies outright with no replacement or alternative.

Recasts are becoming not just cost effective, but even necessary for some armies. As for Black Library, none of my friends even bother anymore because the chance of getting the books they want evaporate before they even go on sale sometimes.
