'Clarach', the first track from Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita's new album 'SOAR', which releases 27th April 2018 on bendigedig.

About the track:

Clarach is the name of the first Dyfi osprey in modern times to be born in Wales and subsequently return from Africa as an adult to rear her own chicks in the UK. Back in the Middle Ages, Wales had a large osprey population, but they were persecuted to extinction. Their ancient presence proves that migration between Senegal and Wales is nothing new. “I like the bird’s freedom to migrate to different places,” Seckou says. “They soar their way, and nothing stops them, but they know where they’re heading, where they’ll find peace and be happy. I’ve been on the same journey, but in a different way.” The shift from minor to major echoes the emotional journey of the migrant.

Yn ôl yn yr Oesoedd Canol, roedd gan Gymru boblogaeth uchel o weilch, ond fe’u helwyd hyd at ddifodiant. Mae eu bodolaeth hynafol yn profi nad yw mudo rhwng Senegal a Chymru yn rhywbeth newydd. “Rwy’n hoffi rhyddid yr aderyn i fudo i wahanol fannau,” meddai Seckou. “Maent yn esgyn eu ffordd, ac nid oes unrhyw beth yn eu rhwystro, ond maen nhw’n gwybod i ble yr ânt, ble byddant yn darganfod heddwch a hapusrwydd. Rwyf wedi bod ar yr un siwrnai, ond mewn modd gwahanol.” Mae’r symudiad o fechan i fawr yn adleisio siwrnai emosiynol y mudwr.
