Privatisation of so much of our utilities is the root cause of the lack of investment in infrastructure in the UK.

For much of the UK there is no water shortage, its the shortage of water treatment plants and waste water treatment. Basically the water firms gave all their profits to shareholders and in the case of Northern Ireland the politicians direct funding away from water and waste treatment to fund other things.

It's sad that our leaders are incentivised to only care about the next 5 years, when running a country takes much greater foresight.

The biggest problem the UK has is that the money that comes in is not spent on infrastructure, quite the opposite. Infrastructure is purposefully mismanaged to create more demand in a private sector that is largely owned by political donors

We have had 10 million extra people come his country in the last 20 years. There was 60 million total not that long ago. This is why the infrastructure dies not exist to cope.

Not neglected. Sold off to private equity firms who take the profits and don’t invest. Solid market forces at work. Demonstrating that always going private doesn’t necessarily make the best outcomes.

Housing is ONLY an issue because we have so many migrants. we coped for 40 odd years with a sensible 30K ish per year, but 15 million over 30 years is just too much.

Reservoirs have been removed throughout Europe under the guise of environmental issues. Since the water was privatised investments have reduced.

Actually the biggest reason for the housing crisis is the state importing millions of foreign colonists. Like literally over 10 million foreigners being brought into a nation with a very low birthrate. Any actual issue with "not enough houses" comes from mass migration that was forced upon the native population.
