Why are airplanes fixed by placing chocks on their wheels?

Chocks are used as a ( redundant) means of securing the a/ c in that spot.
Most of the time " on the gate" the hydraulic parking brakes are applied, before the engines are shut down.
IF a hot brake condition was know before the aircraft was brought or taxied into the gate a decision may be made to TOW the flight into the gate for deplaning. Then it would be the chocks, and a tow tractor used to ensure no movement while deplaning.
