I agree. Oscar's level headedness means he won't make any drastic moves to overtake Max. He'll takes risks absolutely, but they'll be calculated, and he won't overplay his hand.

Piastri's best quality is that he is way mature for his age.

oscar is a breath of fresh air in formula 1 when it comes to young drivers. instead of being hot headed like almost every other young driver that enters formula 1, he is calm, cool headed, and mature.

Oscar is a gem that still needs to be polished (race pace). Once that is fixed he will give everyone a run!

Out of the whole field, Oscar is the most level headed and i believe he’s going to be the next guy to challenge Max

i think the reason why i like oscar as a driver is that last year was his ROOKIE year, and this year it's only his second year. The only times someone has talked abt that was at the beginning of the 2023 season. Some of us have forgotten he's only in his 2nd year in F1!

Oscar will win WDC. Really fast, really calm and always looking to improve. Tyre management issues will be ironed out. He's in his second season and has had a sprint win, and sprint and GP seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if he overtakes Lando next year.

Having a new Prost/Senna-like rivalry would be huge for f1!

He has more to prove before I think he can challenge Max. However his development thus far has been very impressive. He has a very calm demeanour and that is very worrisome for his competitors in the years to come. He’s unflappable and you can’t get under his skin. That’s what Max is great at. Getting into people heads, I think Oscar is the only driver capable of not playing that game with Max.

As a german, Oscar's dry humor is just right up my alley. And he's just such a sweet guy! Like, he seems genuinely nice and friendly.

On his racing, he's really improved so much already, his tyre management has gotten much better and he stays calm in stressful situations. His rookie mistakes have almost completely dissappeared

Oscar on the radio is the best. Zero emotion, still focused on the lap while communicating facts only. Epic

Oscar is the poster boy of “it is what it is”.
Also, I love how he has gotten an ‘l am Groot’ speaking part in the cartoons of lollipopman on youtube (if you haven’t yet, check him out), where all he says is ‘Oscar’.

Couldn't agree more. Oscar is calm and methodical and I would love to see him and Max go wheel to wheel.

Oscar is awesome. He’s kinda unflappable and focused. Nobody is gonna get in his head. The way he drives his aggressive with a cold calculated management. He knows when to hold back and when to go all out.

Fun fact about that 1984 Monaco GP: Yes, Prost (and the French bias at the FIA at that point) got them to stop the race, which secured his victory that race. But because only half points were awarded, Prost would ultimately lose the title by 0, 5 points to Lauda. If he had finished the full race in Monaco in 2nd place behind Senna he would have won the world title.

Oscar reminds me of Kimi. Speaks more on track than off.

I agree that Piastri is going to be the real threat for the future. With all respect to Norris and his talent, I do think he lacks the mental strength to deal with the pressure and all the negativity that will inevitably come once you're no longer the new underdog, but actually start winning. He already struggled with it when he was driving around with relatively low pressure in the midfield. Piastri has a far more down to earth and laid back attitude towards these things. I think that he and Max have probably the healthiest attitude towards both praise and criticism of the whole grid.

Yes! finally someone said it in public!
He is calm, yet determined

A lot of people are under the impression that Oscar's tyre management has not improved at all, but since the Miami GP he has shown an insane step forward in overall race pace:

Miami - maintained a gap with Max Verstappen of ~2s for 25 laps whilst having two Ferrari's on his tail

Imola - impeding penalty (no fault of his own) set him back, but was still able to push and undercut Carlos for P4 and once again kept pace with the top 5 (Max, Lando, Charles, Carlos)

Monaco - managed his tyres and kept pace with Charles for ~68 laps until the end where damage from Carlos in Lap 1 (around 0.2s loss of pace) limited his final push.

Canada - kept pace with Lando throughout the crazy mixed conditions race (especially in those drying conditions where they were setting b2b fastest laps). Only lost his podium place because of the need to defend against the Mercs (which essentially saved Lando's P2).

Spain - a true off weekend where he couldn't find the ideal setup, but still made progress from p10 to p7

Austria - a very hot tyre deg heavy race which is essentially Oscar's nightmare. But, he kept pace with Lando and Max in the Sprint to overtake Lando and finish P2. During the race (once again lost P3 quali position to a questionable track limits penalty) was able to perform some insane overtakes at Turn 6 to jump up to P4 from P7 and would've inherited that P3 on merit prior to the incident considering his pace at the end, but still finished P2 and was keeping pace with Max and Lando at the end as well.

Seriously, in Austria the entire reason Oscar was able to push at the end was because he extended his initial two stints to gain that important tyre advantage, and during this type of hot and high deg race Oscar would've never been able to do that before.

When you consider that Oscar has 33 race starts compared to the 100+ race starts everyone else has around him, his progression and ability to learn is already so impressive. And honestly it's not like his tyre degradation is bad, he just has a very strong teammate who has excellent tyre management skills so it skews the perception a bit.

People tend to just go along with what commentators or pundits say, but if you actually pay attention, barring Spain and China, Oscar has never been wildly off of Lando's race pace this season, 1-2 tenths at most. There is no doubt that he will be up there sooner, rather than later.
